HxGN EAM vs. IBM Maximo Application Suite

EAM is a very capable application without necessarily making it a complex tool to use. The nice thing with EAM is that, thanks to its configuration capabilities, it can be implemented in a multi-stage manner where users can start simple and then later (and over time) expand the usage as they learn or better understand its full potential.

IBM Maximo Application Suite is especially useful for global maintenance standardization, preventive maintenance, and work order management. It helps us identify opportunities to improve reliability and control maintenance costs. However, I see opportunities to make the system more user-friendly, improve reporting flexibility, and simplify some processes that currently require too many steps. I will give an example: in our industry, without a taxonomy, it's almost impossible to standardize, so it depends a lot on the ability of the person who is working with the system and how familiar or used to it he is. Also, we can have as many job plans as we want, but the PM implementation- that's the one that, without an initial guide or experience, is difficult to implement.

• Real-time reporting; this was an improvement on the stand-along Microsoft Excel-based reports
• Integrates with Oracle; linking to an enterprise system help to link with the ledger
• Generally user friendly; the user interface and navigation is relatively intuitive to use

• Usually, we have problems with the mobile apps. For about seven out of ten customers, we need to use third-party mobile applications. It’s been a rollercoaster — Anywhere was terrible, then Maximo Mobile for 8 was pretty good, and now with Maximo 9, it’s problematic again. So it’s been ups and downs. But the good thing is that the architecture is open, so we can use third-party applications or even develop our own add-ons. Still, IBM could do this better.

IBM Maximo Application Suite has provided a solution to our desire to consolidate the multiple applications serving the layers of the Procurement process we has been accustomed to using. By consolidating applications, licensing and software costs are reduced, and the overall headcount to support the various applications was able to be minimized.

EAM is overall simple to use, especially since the UI and individual forms can be configured per user group with simple clicks by a system administrator.

The application is best of its class in Asset Life Cycle Management with powerful features for EAM, Predictive Analysis and Health. The data from Asset maintenance brings together a whole new picure for Asset Health and monitoring the life cycle of the asset starting from deployment until end of life

The user support is better than average when comparing it to other software vendors we use. Normally they reply very quickly, but there is also a tendency to even reply too fast without fully analyzing or understanding the whole underlying problem. However, when we ask support to escalate something to the development team, this is done quickly as well.

I have regularly contacted IBM Support to report issues and raise requests for issues we face during project implementations. The response from them has overall been good and to the point, and they get back to us within a day or 2 and guide us through the process of fixing it or providing an interim fix of the product

Implementation of IBM MAS as a service provider has been easy. The functionality in the OEM space has been the best of its class with all related modules and application subject to maintenance

HxGN EAM is relatively comparable. Much of the software solutions for large enterprise businesses offer relatively comparable features and functionality. For example, integration with our organization's asset management strategy. The set-up of the asset management is organization-specific depending on the type of assets. At our organization, it was primarily equipment and buildings. HxGN EAM stacked up well against the other major solutions such as SAP EAM, IBM Maximo, etc. It may be best to include it as part of the options assessed for a solution to consider.

As a computerized maintenance management system i do not have experience of any other system. The only experience I have is for Maximo and it works excellent for me. I am using many modules available in Maximo and all of these modules are almost fulfilling all of my business needs.

• Infor EAM works as well as the data contained. Management has to be dedicated to a change in culture and everyone must buy into this.
• Infor EAM is very useful in exposing shoddy maintenance practices, or poor reaction to required maintenance. A company cannot be afraid to let the system work for them, and take the necessary actions to improve maintenance practices to prolong the life of their investments.
• The only negative, is as mentioned above, Infor has the capabilities with KPIs and custom reports to easily identify unacceptable maintenance practices.

• The real ROI on Maximo comes from time savings in processes that can be automated or enhanced within Maximo.
• Increased uptime (based on a good maintenance plan).
• Since it offers a wide variety of fields for applications, the interface is not as user-friendly in some cases.
