Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance vs. Spreadsheet Server

Its well suited for medium and large organizations that needs strong financial control , automated workflows , inter-company accounting and real-time reporting . It works wonderfully with all the Microsoft products . However , it may be less useful for small businesses as it requires a good investment in implementation , customization , licensing and user training

Spreadsheet Server is a set it and forget it type of thing. However, if you are wanting to change up the data you get on a regular basis, this may not be the product for you.

• It's easy to use and learn how to create new spreadsheets.
• Spreadsheet Server makes it easy to create custom financial statements for your company. It is a great tool to use with Vista by Viewpoint.
• We can create custom graphs and KPI's in Spreadsheet Server.

• The only issue that we came across, is that not all of our companies have the same financial structure as each other. So the GLs we use for one report, would not necessarily work for all the other companies. We did not want to create separate reports for each company either. We did find a workaround in that we created a lookup tab with GLs to use for each category for each company, then used v-lookup to pull those GLs over. This workaround worked great, but it would have been nice to have something built in to cover this.

As the UI is modern and user friendly which makes it easy to navigate . The dashboard , workspace and personalized view helps to access the right set of information with ease

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance is more robust, and can handle larger, more complex business operations, and have better delineation between corporate management and divisions in a company, but it is not flexible, nor easy to change. It is complex, inflexible, and difficult to incorporate new workflows or business rules to accommodate changes in the business. We have changed over the past decade and while F&O is big and robust, it is not nimble.

Vista did not offer reporting that met our needs. We were not able to easily customize the standard reports to fit our company needs. We are able to create different reports depending on management's needs and level. It is easy to create reports for auditors as well in Spreadsheet Server.

• Because F&O is not very nimble, we are looking to reimplement
• The lack of interoperability has hindered our ability to use external tools to supplement shortcomings of the product
• The inflexibility has lead to great frustration from team leads

• Allows us quick access to cash flow statements which assist in decision making
