We use Spreadsheet Server for our financial statements and a limited number of other payroll/benefits reports.
  • Very easy to use once the format is set up.
  • Allows for flexibility in formatting.
  • Easy to add columns and rows to financial statements.
  • It is difficult to initially set up reports - determining the links to the software system.
It works great for our financial statements - very flexible. I have struggled with setting up new reports that are not 'canned.'

Spreadsheet Server is used primarily by our department (Accounting & Finance). It is instrumental in helping us create financial statements, variance reports, etc. It is a tremendous time-saver, allowing us extra time to complete account reconciliations, produce financial statements, and completing our monthly variance research. It saves us countless hours in compiling data that would have been a manual process.
  • It saves time
  • It is more accurate than hand keying
  • It allows for more complex, intricate calculations
  • Perhaps simplifying the coding would help.
Spreadsheet Server is very well suited for variance analysis, producing financial statements, and compiling account reconciliations.

Currently, only our Accounting Separtment is using Spreadsheet Server. We have been using it for about a year. We started changing over after our current solution announced it would be at end of life at the end of this year. Spreadsheet Server offered us two free licenses through their partnership with Viewpoint, so it was a no brainer to try. I was surprised at how easy it was to setup the reports. If you like working in Excel, then you will love this software.
  • I love that you can create the reports in Excel so that these static fields automatically update when you open. This allows you to update other reports and graphs from this data.
  • They have great support, and response time has always been great.
  • Super easy to start off. You can have setup and reports created on your first day. They give you templates to start off with.
  • The only issue that we came across, is that not all of our companies have the same financial structure as each other. So the GLs we use for one report, would not necessarily work for all the other companies. We did not want to create separate reports for each company either. We did find a workaround in that we created a lookup tab with GLs to use for each category for each company, then used v-lookup to pull those GLs over. This workaround worked great, but it would have been nice to have something built in to cover this.
Spreadsheet Server is a set it and forget it type of thing. However, if you are wanting to change up the data you get on a regular basis, this may not be the product for you.

We are currently using Spreadsheet Server as a reporting tool. We were able to create custom financial statements in Spreadsheet Server to fit our needs. Spreadsheet Server is easy to use and manipulate. Because we are limited on the number of licenses, only a few users in the company are currently using Spreadsheet Server.
  • It's easy to use and learn how to create new spreadsheets.
  • Spreadsheet Server makes it easy to create custom financial statements for your company. It is a great tool to use with Vista by Viewpoint.
  • We can create custom graphs and KPI's in Spreadsheet Server.
  • There is room for error in financial reporting if the accounts are updated on a regular basis.
  • It can be complicated to determine what changes were made if the user does not update the GL accounts.
Spreadsheet Server eliminates the need for custom reports from an outside provider in Vista that can be manipulated and customized to your company. It is easy to use and customize for a user who is familiar with Excel. There is no need to dump data out of your ERP system in order to create reports.

We use it for financial statements and statements of cash flow. It allows us direct access to our Viewpoint database and modify reports on the fly.
  • Realtime data directly from our Viewpoint database
  • Ability to modify financial statements
  • Automate reports
  • A better user interface
  • Easier way of joining tables
  • More templates
The Balance Sheets, Income Statements, Cash Flow and Trial Balance worksheets are all well suited and pull nicely from the Viewpoint Database. We have been able to pull data from multiple tables easier as well. Spread sheet server is appropriate in Job Cost. Not much there in the way of job cost reporting.

Spreadsheet server is used by the Finance/Accounting department. The software allows us to pull data out of our ERP system, into Microsoft Excel. We are then able to manipulate the data as needed.
  • The ability to pull data directly from ERP systems into a spreadsheet, allowing the data to be easily viewed and managed.
  • The ability to use the distribution manager in order to present data without Spreadsheet Server functions.
  • I would like to see the ability to pull data across different fiscal years using one formula.
Being able to use the Distribution Manager function is very helpful. This allows us to pull together financial statements for multiple companies, while simultaneously removing the Spreadsheet Server function.

It's currently being used by Finance and Internal Audit.
  • Filters
  • Formulas
  • Drill down
  • Charting
  • Redundancy of data
  • Working with newer versions of Excel
Spreadsheet Server is well suited for slicing and dicing the same data in various ways to supply executives with their personal view of the data for presentation purposes.
