Percona
Percona Server for MySQL covers 100% of our requirements in terms of our OLTP traffic and provides the High Availability levels required through a typical primary and 2 replica's using semi-synchronous replication. We're able to scale our writes using sharding, but a true distributed database would be a great option on top of this. In terms of OLAP traffic, we leverage columns stores available, but Percona Server fairs well

Business analytics is one of the areas where SingleStore really helped. As we implemented BI platforms, the previous DB would bog down so bad that it negatively affected our online products. Moving to SingleStore made a huge difference. General performance is amazing. We gained speed in areas we were not even expecting to the point we had to slow down or put rate limits in place to avoid duplications - something completely unexpected. The hosted service is great. We no longer have to worry about maintenance, db infrastructure or system updates which saves a significant amount of time for the IT team.

SingleStore
  • Technical support is stellar -- far above and beyond anything I've experienced with any other company.
  • When we compared SingleStore to other databases two years ago, we found SingleStore performance to be far superior.
  • Pipeline data ingestion is exceptionally fast.
  • The ability to combine transactional and analytical workloads without compromising performance is very impressive.

  • We wish the product had better support for High Availability of the aggregator. Currently the indexes generated by the two different aggregators are not in the same sequential space and so our apps have more burden to deal with HA.
  • More tools for debugging issues such as high memory usage would be good.
  • The price was the one that kept us away from purchasing for the first few years. Now we are able to afford due to a promotion that gives it at 25% of the list price. Not sure if we'll continue after the promotion offer expires in another 2 years.

[Until it is] supported on AWS ECS containers, I will reserve a higher rating for SingleStore. Right now it works well on EC2 and serves our current purpose, [but] would look forward to seeing SingleStore respond to our urge of feature in a shorter time period with high quality and security.

We give SingleStore the top score here given how performant it has been for us. We have used their self-managed option since day 1 which is now over 2 years ago. We are running 100’s of millions of requests per month, performing queries across billions of records and the self-managed option has continued to hold up well for us without any need to move to their paid offering.

Very responsive to trouble tickets - Often, I think, the SingleStore's monitoring systems have already alerted the engineers by the time I get around to writing a ticket (about 10 - 20 mins after we see a problem). I feel like things are escalated nicely and SingleStore takes resolving trouble tickets seriously. Also SingleStore follows up after incidents to with a post mortem and actionable takaways to improve the product. Very satisfied here.

We allowed 2-3 months for a thorough evaluation. We saw pretty quickly that we were likely to pick SingleStore, so we ported some of our stored procedures to SingleStore in order to take a deeper look. Two SingleStore people worked closely with us to ensure that we did not have any blocking problems. It all went remarkably smoothly.

Performance and stability sets Percona Server for MySQL apart from the rest. Percona embraces the upstream version and contributes towards the upstream version making MySQL stronger on two fronts and thus having a much larger community. Many quality contributions have been made by Percona into the base code. Percona provides great tools to support Percona Server for MySQL and this makes the monitoring and management easier

We've tried both these above, to solve ingestion and analytical queries. Dynamo was a perfect ingestion service, but it didn't allow us to run intense analytical queries. Aurora helped us run these analytical queries, and ingestion was reasonable, BUT the queries were simply too slow. SingleStore has provided a solution to essentially allow us to take these two tools, and turn them into 1.

Percona
  • At the performance level, it maintains and even improves other open-source databases such as MariaDB or some commercial ones such as Oracle.
  • If we compare it with MySQL, we could have up to 50% improvement in performance.
  • For some small companies or startups, the price of the complete solution and the support can be a bit high.

  • As the overall performance and functionality were expanded, we are able to deliver our data much faster than before, which increases the demand for data.
  • Metadata is available in the platform by default, like metadata on the pipelines. Also, the information schema has lots of metadata, making it easy to load our assets to the data catalog.
