Acronis Home Office Suite - Lots Of Functionality With A Low Cost!

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office primarily to create custom bootable media for image creation and deployment. Acronis allows me to add local driver folders to a boot image so that any model of the machine I need to utilize will function without issue. You can also create bootable CDs/DVDs with the same software - however, we stick to custom ISOs and USB drives for this usage.

Pros

  • Price Point is phenomenal for what you get.
  • Windows & Linux Bootable Media Creation.
  • Clone Disk Software.
  • Drive Cleanser software is used to strip/wipe a drive fully to protect sensitive data before physical destruction.

Cons

  • Being able to have several Windows ADK folder structures (For different versions of Windows Deployments (Win 10/Win 11) would be great. I've not figured out a way to do this properly yet.

Likelihood to Recommend

Acronis Cyber Protect is great for any small/mid-sized business. The price point makes it attractive to all budgets >$100/year for 5 device deployments. Competitors offer less and charge more! Very happy with the suite of products, and renewals are simple and straightforward as well. I hope they don't change a thing!

Reliable backup

Rating: 4 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Acronis to back up a laptop used in teaching and research as well as my home computer. It solves the problem of recovering essential materials quickly in the event of a catastrophic computer loss or failure.

Pros

  • Restore works (the most important part of a backup)!
  • Restore to different hardware works, important when you upgrade computers.
  • Many options to select the type of backup, where stored, etc.
  • Includes real-time malware protection.

Cons

  • I'd like to be able to choose the backup drive by its hardware identification.
  • I'd like to be able to rename online backups.
  • The notifications panel seems unnecessary but it can't be disabled.
  • Notifications show off screen on high DPI display with task bar on the left.
  • New license agreement attempts to contract away freedom of speech.

Likelihood to Recommend

Works well to backup three machines (my license limit) at a reasonable cost with a reasonable amount of online storage provided. It is somewhat clunky if you want to do rotating backups among two or more separate hard drives. A license agreement which restricts my freedom to publicly discuss how the software performs is offensive.

Online Backup Solution that Works Well!

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I back up religiously, several different ways, and Acronis True Image is the method I use for online backup. We are a small firm, so I use it to back up all the shared data, as well as several key computers.

Pros

  • It is seamless. Set it and let it do its magic in the background.
  • The online portal allows you to quickly check the status of all backups easily.
  • The program includes an Antivirus scan in the background. Although I rely on different, more comprehensive software for virus scanning, every little bit helps.

Cons

  • My main complaint is that the interface for choosing which folders / files to back up is not that great. It takes a little digging to make sure that you have everything chosen correctly.
  • The initial backup takes a long time. Other companies provide a portable disk that you can 'seed' with your data and ship to them to shortcut the process, but they don't.

Likelihood to Recommend

I'm not sure that this is suited for large companies. This is manageable for a small firm with several key computers that need to be backed up. I'm not sure this would scale well for a big company.

Good ideas, badly implemented. Stick to the local imaging with this product

Rating: 2 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

[Acronis True Image was] implemented as part of a redundant backup and recovery plan. Running this on a workstation with a local external drive and cloud, and laptop with a local external drive. Purchased because of the imaging reputation that Acronis traditionally has, and interested in their new claimed ability to help interrupt ransomware.

Pros

  • Imaging

Cons

  • Cloud backup is not functioning well
  • User interface is clunky
  • Speed in settings, loading, backups and everything else

Likelihood to Recommend

The imaging capability seems to be solid [with Acronis True Image], although I have not had to recover a drive yet so cannot compare. The logs tell me when it is (and isn't) working. The "Cloud Replication" that is supposed to simultaneously replicate the

local backup image is perfectly awful and the months of tech support

ended with them telling me I had a "VSS issue" on a brand new workstation

and that I should just create a separate cloud image. After months of it

taking 3-4 DAYS to run, IF it worked, and then failing altogether, I discontinued it. It was even logging (running?) under another separate critical files backup, and forced to use the same encryption password. Setting up a new one failed. The cloud backup of my critical

files is still running at kb/sec speeds. The ransomware protection hasn't caught anything yet to my knowledge, and consumes a lot of resources. Changing the settings takes at least 10 minutes to log into the cloud. Cloud storage is tiny and a push to get you to pay more. Will not be renewing.

Data Integrity worries keeping you at bay...try Acronis True Image 2021 and save your day!

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Acronis True Image both on our networked computers and standalone computers in our office as our main computer data backup and restore system. It is our go to solution for our data integrity for virus, ransomware, and system backups

Pros

  • Computer Data Backups
  • Virus protection
  • Disk drive cloning
  • Disk cleaning and reformatting

Cons

  • User interface could be improved such that when hovering over tools a better description could pop up to list the functions of that tool and how to use it
  • Improved virus protection options
  • Have all the features and functions of the software available without additional subscriptions required and fees

Likelihood to Recommend

I think that Acronis True Image provides to our business the best value in data protection bar none. It is a perfect solution for small and medium sized businesses.

One of the reliable and trustworthy apps in the market with great support team

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Some users are using Acronis True Image on their laptops to perform various functions related to backup of data. It supports all kinds of backup like file and/or folder backup, system partition backup etc. It helps in backing up data for emergency situations like ransomware attacks, transferring data, OS etc. to another computer among other things.

Pros

  • Best Graphical interface in backups apps.
  • Fast to backup data.
  • Has ransomware protection feature which sets it apart from other backup apps and negates the need to have a separate ransomware protection software.

Cons

  • The setup takes time to install.
  • The app does not run in domain environment without domain admin login.
  • The speeds are great but can be improved a bit more.

Likelihood to Recommend

Acronis True Image is well suited to people who are looking for a reliable and easy to use backup program. It is excellent for both home and business users but would recommend it for home use more. I also like that the app supports backing up data to cloud storage also in addition to local drives/external hard disks etc.

Fairly easy to use backup software that ticks most boxes, but don't rely on this as your only backup

Rating: 6 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Acronis True Image (ATI) provides locally-stored daily backups of client projects, drafts and assets. Since our files are fairly large, its delta backup feature saves a lot of time by backing up only parts that have changed. These backups also make it possible to test certain configurations and then revert them afterwards. ATI is also used to store clean ready-to-go images of common applications and software configurations which can be easily restored if a system becomes corrupted or degrades significantly in performance.

Pros

  • Delta backup makes backups super fast of larger files that do not change in its entirety (e.g. VM images, large PSD files)
  • Easy to use (set it and forget it)
  • Rescue media makes it easy to restore backups to different hardware and migrate to other work stations
  • Lots of backup options on the Windows version of ATI

Cons

  • Like many other backup software, its reliance on volume shadow service (VSS) can be troublesome to troubleshoot. Errors around VSS tend to be cryptic and could be caused by completely unrelated issues (Acronis VSS doctor can only help so much)
  • Mac version of ATI has many issues and occasionally fails to restore an image because of the split system and data volumes in macOS Catalina and later
  • Updater in Mac version of ATI causes constant kernel_task activity (20%+) randomly until internet connection is cut off or the updater file is made non executable
  • Error messages in ATI are often too generic and not helpful
  • ATI will also randomly delete all the previous backups except the recent one even though ample disk space is available on the destination disk. As mentioned previously, the mac version will sometimes fail to restore on Catalina (10.15) and later.

Likelihood to Recommend

ATI provides a robust set of features in the Windows version and is great for both home and business use. It is easy to setup different backups of different folders and run them all on a schedule. However, some knowledge of backup schemes will be helpful as it provides many different types (incremental, differential, etc), but it does not provide any recommendations on which method is ideal for which use case scenarios. The Mac version is significantly lacking in features and by default does not appear to exclude certain cache folders so without excluding them manually, you may find your backup volume filling up faster than usual. On Windows, the commonly used folders are excluded by default but may still require fine tuning depending on the applications being used. (e.g. Adobe's massive media cache folder will indeed get backed up)

Acronis True Image - my long and successful history with a trustwarthy product

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use this product internally, as well as recommending and selling it to other people and organizations. I use the software to create scheduled, automatic full system image backups of company and client workstations (as well as Windows servers with the appropriate Acronis server products). This product has proven useful numerous times over the last 12 years both for bare-metal recovery of systems with failed drives, as well as to recover individual files that were corrupted or deleted by users. It has proven itself invaluable.

Pros

  • Full, automatic backups with no user action required.
  • Email notifications of backup completion status for confirmation that successful backups are occurring.
  • Protection of backup files from accidental deletion or malware interference/encryption.

Cons

  • Some features have actually become more complicated over the years. One that comes to mind is creating a backup plan that can execute daily to an external USB media that is changed daily (older versions would back up to the, for example, "F" drive regardless of which drive was attached - newer versions identify each drive uniquely, and a backup task created with a given external drive will fail due to the lack of media presence if the drive is replaced).
  • Error messages could be less cryptic.
  • Support turnaround time and live assistance could be faster.

Likelihood to Recommend

Acronis True Image is my go-to recommendation for automatic full system backups. It is often the fastest and most complete way to recover a failed system. Conversely, for backups of user data only, I actually prefer a cloud solution such as iDrive, which is far simpler to set up than most online solutions, and offers included phone and email technical support that is quite competent.
