Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I’m looking for easiest setup for authentication on my SAAS service, Auth0 is looked mature and having a lot free monthly active user than other platform. It helps tiny startup grows before they scale later.

Pros

Easy setup
A lot of free monthly active user
Great UI & UX and modification on my app

Cons

The docs can be improved like having a lot example code/tutorial for beginner on many growing framework (tanstack start, nuxt, etc) with connection with 3rd party service (payment, database, etc)

In my organization, we use Auth0 to handle Authentication. It helps create authentication for a web application without starting from scratch and provides more security features, including Multi-Factor Authentication and Single Sign-On (SSO). It also supports social login options, including Microsoft, GitHub, and Google. On top of that, Auth0 includes MFA and role-based access, which helps cover common security and access-control needs. The business problem it addresses is providing secure and reliable authentication for newly developed applications with advanced features and enhanced security. Auth0 makes authentication easier to implement and integrate into applications, helping developers save time by avoiding the need to build an authentication system from scratch. The scope is to deliver a robust application with improved authentication features, including social login support, role-based access for users, and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to enhance security.

Helps to create an authentication without building it from scratch. Able to provide social logins such as Microsoft and Google, which helps them to use it as a single sign-on. Better to use in single-page applications, as it is easy to integrate with the Angular frontend. In some cases, configuring Auth0 can be somewhat difficult for beginners, especially when defining redirect URLs and handling role-based access. It will be less appropriate in software where the user uses a software-based login, like Microsoft logins and fixed domains; they will commonly use the Microsoft login, although we can also integrate it with Auth0.

We are using Auth0 for user authentication. It mainly helps in managing login and safe access across all platforms. It has made our authentication much much easier to manage and doesnt required much deep security expertise.

Configurations are very complex and guides should be added to make the simple
Also, it's bit costly worth wise

Auth0 is a platform for managing authorization and authentication in an organization. In my organization, we use Auth0 to integrate with our internal and external applications with OAuth 2.0 and SAML to ensure security. This OAuth 0.0.1 enables SSO for users accessing applications integrated with the Auth0.

In my scenario, I need to provide a particular level of access to a set of users. Instead of providing access to each and every one, I can assign everyone to a single group and provide the role and resource access to the entire group, which is controlled at the RBAC level using the Auth0 platform. It is easy to maintain the group's permission we are assigning.

We have used Auth0 before as our authentication and identity management system for our platform. The main problem it solves for us is secure authentication without having to build everything from scratch. We handle sensitive user data, so security is very important. Auth0 provides secure login, password management, email verification, and multi-factor authentication.

Auth0 is strong for teams that want fast, secure auth with good defaults (MFA, social login, solid SDKs) and don’t want to maintain identity infrastructure. For us, it became less appropriate as we scaled because the pricing becomes harder to forecast with MAU growth, and we wanted more predictable costs. We also ran into operational friction around rate limits during bursts (login/refresh or automation), and some platform limits made our role/permission model harder to manage long-term.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I used Auth0 as a primary IDP for our Kong API Gateway and it solved these business problems -
1. It centralised the access system and removed the need of having a on Prem Directory.
2. It helped us in using Auth0 effectively and efficiently by allowing us to use its API's.
3. Its Auth0 actions helped us in scripting and extract the exact output we wanted.

Pros

It works exceptionally well in providing the RBAC also known as Role Based Access Control.
Its APIs works flawlessly and are so easy to integrate.
Its Actions features is a really great add on to extract the best of it.

Cons

Its UI can be improved and made something like Okta.
It should support more languages in Auth0 actions.

It's really well suited when we have environment of multiple tools and applications and we want to have a centralised Access centre instead of having one made by us and apart from that it's really helpful for me when I wanted to implement Auth0 2.0 in Kong API gateway.

We have several AI agents we utilize across our organization. Because we are in the financial industry, we have strict security protocols and Auth0 allows us to effectively and robustly secure the agents. In addition to this, we utilize Auth0 for authentication on many of our logins to secure areas of the site.

Pros

Easily integrates with other apps using Javascript (or Android/Swift for mobile)
Support is top-notch and responds quickly (and provides thorough responses)
The platform is very developer-friendly, with multiple toolkits and different authentication methodologies

Cons

Price jumps are frequent after being on the platform for just a little while
Customization ability is limited; it is not that the platform does not allow it. It is just very difficult to implement the platform in ways that is not 'out of the box.'
There are frequent updates, which often require workflow tweaks and additional work

Auth0 excels in very large organizations where there is a need to consolidate authentication management among different operating groups. Additionally, organizations that need a solution that integrates well with existing infrastructure will be very happy with Auth0. And finally, the platform's many SDKs make development straightforward for teams that need a starting place.
