We use BMC AMI Ops mainly to monitor our mainframe and keep an eye on system performance. It detects the problems early and reduces downtime. Without it, things would be difficult, and this helps in making it smooth.

BMC AMI Ops is very well suited for companies running complex mainframe environments where real-time monitoring is critical. However, it is less reliable for modern plug-and-play monitoring solutions.

Used to monitor a large amount of domains (CICS/DB2/MQ and so on) and done correlation between events.

Some parts of product need enhancements (Alarms, CICS/CTG, etc ...) but can be used every day as is.

Interface is friendly and intuitive.

3270 interface can be customized.

Graphic interface is a lot complex.

You can track CICS task, take actions on them if some are hang or looping.

You can go to the past because activity is recorded ans all metrics are available later.

You can do correlation between CICS/DB2/MQ when you have CICS transactions doing access to these domains.

You can set thresholds or alarms on some metrics to take actions or be alerted when exceeded.

We use BMC AMI Ops to monitor our mainframe applications and the mainframe environment. I find the BMC AMI Ops provide all the available information and in a detailed manner. I appreciate that there are several alternate interfaces to basically the same data. It depends upon your comfort level. Either ISPF, java or web-based.

BMC AMI ops monitors the environment and environment components very well. Db2, zOS, CICS, etc. It is not immediately helpful for understanding the application context. Of course, that is not magic. The end-user (me) must know what they are doing, what the userids are and whatnot ,and how to relate to informal application names

I am a DB2 DBA and currently using the BMC products to support my DB2 functions. Currently working on loading the DB2 performance statistics. I also use the Mainview monitor to see DB2 thread activity. In some scales, I have used it to cancel threads
