Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The software is used in our organisation as a process intelligence platform. The software and process mining technology provides us an end to end view of the process and facilitates the business user for a fast in-depth analysis of their processes. The scope of use case it to identify problematic cases, and drill down to identify the root causes of these. The scope is quite extensive, spanning across various departments, seeing how projects / deliveries are impacted by finance and vice versa.

Pros

Improves data analysis and root cause identification speed
Provides an end to end view of the business process
Provides nice dash boarding tools

Cons

Misses many charts and visualisation tools like 3D plots etc
Robust drag and drop functionality makes it difficult to program certain use cases
Low code environment, especially with the OCPM update, makes it difficult to program the solutions in the backend

Likelihood to Recommend

In most of the process intelligence initiatives, Celonis comes out on top with respect to the features it offers. Getting from connecting data sources to reaching a first visualisation in process explorer is pretty straightforward (not so simple with OCPM). The software also provides extensive ability for automation use cases, etc.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Scope of our use cases: order management, inventory management, production planning, accounts payable. We use Celonis to monitor process maturity and drive process improvements.

Pros

Allow drill down from high level KPI to detailed events.
highly customizable (back end and front end).

Cons

OCPM is a great feature, but it is now much harder to find which table/field is used where (feature request: 00369742).
As an Admin, I want to monitor our compliance with our licensing contract (feature request 00367225).
As an Admin, I want to be able to check which Group/user has access to which features (feature request 00422337).
As an Admin, I need to monitor the PQL performance impacting the front end and data jobs (feature request 00424700).
As an Admin, I want to grant permission to manage "data permissions" of a data model without granting permissions to edit jobs/data model (feature request 00307565).

At [...], we are on a mission to cut cycle times on our clinical research projects, enabling us to move from lab to first human dose (FHD) and from FHD to regulatory approval at unprecented speed - all in order to let us reach patients faster, and support with their long-term health needs.

In order to accelerate, we are working closely with Celonis to create digital twins of our R&D processes. This is already allowing us to see process variations and whitespace, and giving us an evidence-based foundation for process improvement initiatives, and investment in new digital tooling.

In short: Celonis allows us to move from "we think this is how the process works" to "here's how it actually looks, where it deviates from the written process, what it costs, and what to fix first".

As Celonis engages with more customers in heavily regulated industries, it would be great to see some additional effort given to the model for Lifecycle Management of products which impact on regulated processes. At times, the platform's capabilities are evolving faster than we can validate them to our regulated processes, which limits how we are allowed to use Celonis. A more mature LCM model with differentiated environments would allow customers in non-regulated industries to operate on the "bleeding edge", while still allowing customers in regulated environments to operate against a roadmap with a more predictable cadence (i.e. major/minor releases).

The platform supports proactive risk identification, value‑based process improvements, and more reliable delivery across the R&D value chain.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Initially, we used Celonis to understand our process better and to create performance baselines to provide visibility to how the process is actually working. Also, we wanted to identify and extract relevant KPIs from the process data which reflect the current performance.

At the same time as the initial process mining, we were working on some improvement initiatives, so having an understanding of the process allows us to measure if those improvements are having any impact.

After we completed the initial process mining, we transitioned from Process Analysis to developing some improvement tools with Celonis.

Pros

Understanding the data and creating meaningful insights
Aligning stakeholders on what to focus on
Efficient in their delivery with very few delays

Cons

Helping reduce the complexity to support adoption throughout the business - received feedback that Celonis can only be used by Celonis SMEs, as the interface looks too complex
Can we go faster with less? Both from the Celonis side and NN side feels like if we involved less stakeholders we could achieve more
To get the most from Celonis we need to get the people who are closest to the process comfortable enough so they can draw insights from themselves - Celonis are good are drawing insights, but naturally sometimes misses the business context

Likelihood to Recommend

Some projects have already reached out to me, looking for input if they should do something similar. My feedback has been that Celonis has given us a lot in terms of understanding the process and giving us a baseline in order to measure what we do going forward.

My feedback is that they need to be clear on their requirements and expectations of what they want to achieve in advance. Celonis is not a silver bullet that can identify problems and solutions, but it can give us a deep understanding once we know what we are looking for.

We use Celonis within our warehouse distribution center to gain deeper insights into the logistics processes. Our analysis focused on the fill rate of bins and the number of bins sent to end control. Based on these insights, we were able to increase the average fill rate of the bins and significantly reduce unnecessary end controls, leading to more efficient warehouse operations.

In addition, we are now analyzing the logistics processes within our pharmacies using Celonis. This provides insights into which parcels remain in lockers for too long and when they are removed again. The analysis also gives visibility into the transport process, allowing us to identify customers who are frequently not at home and delivery routes that are incorrectly classified as urgent deliveries. These insights help us further improve delivery efficiency and reduce unnecessary urgency in transport planning.

We are a Celonis partner within our consultancy firm. We use Celonis on a daily basis, managing projects ranging from data integration to dashboard creation and problem analysis. The main processes I analyse are Procurement and Accounts Payable. We use Celonis to understand the business processes using the ERP data. It clearly shows where is the delay, bottleneck and rework.We mainly use it for supply chain, procurement, inventory, and order management. Also Celonis helps us identify repetitive mundane task and those task we will automate using RPA.

Celonis requires a right CoE, sponsorship and partner. This is not always easy to set up for small or medium business. On the other hand, Celonis excels when these things are in place, becoming real digital transformation of the processes with real economic impact. Unfortunately it is still perceived as a software not as a business transformation lever
