Cisco AnyConnect simplifies deployment and management of remote workforce.

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our organisation, uses Cisco AnyConnect, now known as Cisco Secure Client for our remote workforce and also for administrators being able to connect and manage our systems from remote locations. AnyConnect replaced what was before L2TP/IPSec which has become insecure and obsolete. Our organisation has about 40 - 49 employees, that can access the systems from home, if they need to work from home.

Pros

  • VPN remote Access
  • User access management via group-policies
  • Securing the connections with modules I.E Umbrella, Secure Endpoint

Cons

  • Update management, could be simplified, adding an auto fetch latest binaries, at the head end, but that's more of an FTD/ASA feature request.

Likelihood to Recommend

We purchased an Cisco Secure Firewall for our network, and were quick to adopt Cisco AnyConnect as our main VPN solution. The client is easy to deploy as a Binary at the head end, for clients to fetch the latest image, and image can be kept up to date if security vulnerabilities come up. This has simplified the management, for our administrators, since authorization for access can be managed with group policies that are assigned at the FTD to Active Directory groups. Cisco supplies the client, so no operating system configurations need to be maintained, or issues with clients not being able to connect because of operating systems update.

Secure remote access

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Remote connect

Pros

  • Seamless Secure remote connection
  • Integration with Meraki and Umbrella
  • Policy adherence

Cons

  • Deployment and installation setup is complex
  • slow downs the internet access
  • cost is still a bit expensive

Likelihood to Recommend

Geo dispersed companies, with remote workers needing to access systems and information in a secure manner, with policy adherence and centralized management and seamless integration with Cisco security stack. If there are many internal domains to be accessed and complex configurations, sometimes the overhead or need to constantly reconnect make it not the best tool.

Recommended VPN client for cisco based infrastructure.

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our office backbone infrastructure is mainly made of cisco devices like at core cisco ASA and FTD firewalls, at branch level cisco ISR series routers and at distribution level we have mixed vendors and most of them are cisco switches.

So, we mainly use Cisco AnyConnect to help our remote employees to connect to our network and get secure access to office resources. On top of that it goes pretty well with our overall cisco based infrastructure. Most of our critical app servers are hosted inside so it's a must use tool for our daily operation.

Pros

  • Most of our users are windows based but we do have linux and MAC users, till now we did not face any issue in any of these OS regarding the installation or connectivity with Cisco AnyConnect. Supports almost in all linux distro which is a huge plus point for us.
  • Also, it's a great tool to keep the overall infrastructure posture in check. I mean a user must meet some certain conditions to connect to our office network like having the tamper protection and antivirus on. No user will be allowed until he meet these criteria
  • We have the biggest advantage of having the cisco based infra thus we hardly face any issue with Cisco AnyConnect.
  • The encryptions methods are highly trustworthy.

Cons

  • We did not face any noticeable difficulties with Cisco AnyConnect till now, but we had to migrate our ASA firewall to a different vendor as ASA was EOL in one of our branch. As we have site to site VPN with all the site we were struggling to establish VPN between the cisco FTD and newly deployed firewall (non cisco). Later even after a successful VPN we were struggling to do remote access VPN to our FTD which had tunnel with a non cisco firewall. So overall I would recommend cisco to improve Cisco AnyConnect in terms of compatibility specifically when the remote access vpn needs to work in mixed environments where Cisco devices have to tunnel with non cisco routers or firewalls
  • compared to other vpn clients the user interface of Cisco AnyConnect feels very basic. Well, it does have its pros and cons like some non tech employees can use it very effectively!

Likelihood to Recommend

Well i strongly recommend Cisco AnyConnect for cisco based infrastructure or at least where the backbone/core is on cisco. Cisco AnyConnect works smoothly if the core is based on cisco firewall or router.

A functional VPN tool from Cisco that does the job perfectly

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cisco AnyConnect is the default VPN used in our organisation. Cisco AnyConnect automatically connects to VPN if it detects I am not on a trusted office network so that I can seamlessly connect to enterprise applications which only work on office network. This helps a lot if I am working remotely from home.

Pros

  • Cisco AnyConnect works in the background and automatically connects to the VPN without any manual intervention as soon as it detects a network change and if the network is not a trusted network, ensure seamless access and higher security while connecting to enterprise applications

Cons

  • Cisco AnyConnect serves its purpose well and is really good at its core functionality of connecting to VPN when not on a trusted network and I face no issues with AnyConnect at all

Likelihood to Recommend

AnyConnect is well suited for users who work remotely or travel frequently on official business and connect to untrusted public networks. In these cases, AnyConnect is very useful because it will ensure secure access and seamless connection to office applications by connecting to a VPN network that proxies your office network.

Great Product simple to use and straight forward

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it to is securerly access networks for remote users as well as onsite to access different purpose built servers. This allows our teams to connect to the internal resources no matter if they are remote or physically in the office. The VPN establishes a secure connection point to ensure the security of the connection

Pros

  • secure connection
  • easy setup and explaination of how to use
  • tracking to see whose uses the services

Cons

  • price point
  • rollout however this maybe just the team that provided the services
  • price point

Likelihood to Recommend

when having remote workers across the country that need to access servers in a secure way. With the ability to track their access and set up 2 factor authorntication to access the services. While the setup is pretty straight forward the use of the services to be rolled out company wide was easily done

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It is one of the top notch and maybe most secure access VPN. Very conveninant to use it to access our organization internal network safely from home or when I travel somewhere away from office.

One of the best things is that the traffic is secure as it is encrypted,

I've never had any issue so far and it really helped me a lot access my organization's network and tools whenever I was away from the office.

Pros

  • Very secure and encrypted traffic
  • Automatically reconnects when having any short connectivity issue
  • It is widely accessible via multiple OS and platforms

Cons

  • It automatically reconnects if I am having small disruptions with my connection
  • It has integrated MGA to ensure my secure connection
  • It has encrypted traffic feature
  • It is very stable and secure and reliable wherever I use it outside my office

Likelihood to Recommend

It is very well suited to use when working from home, hotel or anywhere outside the office in order to access your desired network and tools.

For a company like ours it is a bit expensive since the cost of licensing and menagement is a bit high, but it is worth it.
