Cohesity Data Cloud

Cohesity Data Cloud is a software-defined, scale-out data management platform designed to consolidate backup, recovery, security, and analytics across hybrid cloud environments. The architecture utilizes a distributed design that allows for linear scaling of capacity and performance by adding nodes to a cluster. Cohesity Data Cloud incorporates a zero trust security framework, featuring multi-factor authentication (MFA), role-based access control (RBAC), and quorum-based administrative approvals.

The platform includes several core components:

• DataProtect: A backup and recovery solution for traditional and SaaS workloads, including virtual machines, containers, relational databases, NAS, and physical servers. The vendor states that DataProtect supports instant recovery by mounting backup data directly as a live volume.
• FortKnox: A SaaS-based cyber vaulting service that creates an air-gapped copy of data in a Cohesity-managed cloud vault to isolate it from the primary network.
• Data Security Posture Management (DSPM): The Cohesity Data Cloud integrates with DSPM solutions from Cyera and others to identify unprotected sensitive data, ensure its protected, and ensure compliance is maintained during recoveries.
• Cohesity Gaia: A tool using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to facilitate natural language queries across enterprise data.

Cohesity Data Cloud supports a wide range of data sources, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft 365. Organizations can deploy the solution as self-managed software on-premises, as a virtual appliance in the public cloud, or through a Backup as a Service (BaaS) model. All environments are managed through a single management plane, providing visibility into snapshots and recovery points across the infrastructure.
