What is Epic MyChart?

Epic software offers MyChart, a patient portal for sharing health records and information, guidance, or communicating, as well as patient scheduling.

MyChart encourages patients to be an advocate for their healthcare needs.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Epic MyChart is utilized by our patients to access their health records. The system allows them to message our physicians, review their results, request refills and more.

Pros

  • Easy access to records
  • Messaging
  • Viewing appointment history, requesting appts etc.

Cons

  • There are rarely any technical issues, but having the option to hit a button within the chart and call would be nice.

Return on Investment

  • A huge time saver for staff and physicians to be able to answer questions via this platform vs. phoning in every patient scenario
  • Minimizes the need for a formal medical records department
  • I find that patients don't always know how to use it and I have never heard of help sessions or a specific number for sign up help etc.

A great way to communicate with your health care patients

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a company, we use Epic MyChart to inform patients of test results, scheduled appointments, and general health overviews. This has ensured that our customers are more effectively communicated with and feel that with the app, they are a touch away from managing their own health. This has reduced staff time in dealing with telephone calls or emails to respond to customer queries regarding their test results.

Pros

  • Communicates effectively with patients
  • Excellent interface
  • Notifies appointments
  • Saves staff time

Cons

  • Can be complicated for some users, so does require some explanation
  • Is only as good as the team that completes the information

Most Important Features

  • Amazing app interface for customers
  • Communicating effectively and professionally with customers
  • Excellent way to provide health information

Return on Investment

  • Complicated to set up with some customers

Epic and MyChart

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Communicating with colleagues, patients, and other care providers on the individual’s plan of care. The product addresses keeping track of previous and upcoming appointments, vaccinations (past and future), previous lab test results, and even preventative care options that the individual qualifies for, and the option for email-like communications between medical staff and the individual being treated.

Pros

  • Email-like correspondence.
  • Appointment tracking.
  • Easy to read lab results.

Cons

  • Slow communication form for private messaging, could add a live chat feature option.
  • Better organization to have my chart of multiple companies flow seamlessly on the patient/individual side. A lot of times they have to create multiple accounts, one person provider.
  • Being able to use the app outside of the US allows more access and freedom-range for those that travel or work internationally.

Most Important Features

  • Easy of use for employees and consumers.
  • Ability to move seamlessly between different user devices without glitches.
  • Minimal outages or downtime scenarios.

Return on Investment

  • It has created more ways to communicate with patients and other providers.
  • It has helped with Med reconciliation.
  • Reduction of work redundancies.

MyChart is the de-facto experience in connecting to your health care

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

This is used for medical information results, appointment scheduling, etc. It simplifies communication that usually takes too long over the phone, and instead is accomplished whenever you need it easily, web or mobile app. It has been used for direct messaging (although the interface is a bit dated for that), appointment reviews, and finally result in links.

Pros

  • Slick mobile app
  • Mobile app supports multiple profiles
  • Great UI that is pleasant and inviting

Cons

  • Actual data when displayed is a bit unpolished
  • Didn't find easy integration to device calendar and profiles
  • Dark mode would have been nice

Most Important Features

  • Multiple profile support
  • Secure messaging
  • Result display and interpretation

Return on Investment

  • Time saved; hard to measure, but it's surely there!

MyChart - helping me do my part

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We primarily use Epic MyChart to store, analyze, and manage patient data and care. We also use it to communicate with patients and facilitate care (e.g. virtual visits, MyChart messages), and collect billing payments. Because many of our patients also are seen at other healthcare organizations, it's helpful to have a standard system like MyChart that they are already familiar using.

Pros

  • Collecting payments for bills
  • Providing patient data for analysis
  • Continuous updates of their UI
  • Integrating different tools like virtual visits, SmartExam

Cons

  • Better user experience - it's most helpful for those that are digitally savvy. Patients that struggle with tech have a hard time with things like Pre-Checkin.
  • Not customizable. Very hard to customize the solution to our organization's needs while ensuring upgrades are still possible.
  • Not able to use facial recognition to log in as a patient/user.

Most Important Features

  • Patient data storage
  • Patient communication
  • Billing and payment

Return on Investment

  • Positive ROI
  • Easier to analyze patient demographics
  • Saves time for medical assistants needing to check patients in
