IBM Cloud Object Storage Today

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I recommend IBM Cloud Object Storage to my clients who are looking for a safe, secure and efficient resource to move unused data from the mainframe to the cloud.

Pros

  • gives companies the best of both worlds with reliability and mainframe support
  • Allows for data to be recalled once moved to cloud
  • Becomes a natural extension of the mainframe

Cons

  • Performance and latency
  • Data governance

Likelihood to Recommend

Hospitals may need to hold onto the medical records of patients that have passed. Instead of clogging up your tape storage, the cloud gives an option to keep data, but hold space for it in another area, with option to recall if needed.

IBM Cloud Object Storage is an amazing tool for backups, cloud migrations, and data retention

IBM Cloud Object Storage Review

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use COS as document storage for our document management system, and it serves its purpose: it stores documents that can be retrieved at a reasonable speed and at a reasonable price.

Some time ago, we submitted a suggestion for improvement regarding the backup functions of COS. Recently, a significant improvement called “backup policies” was announced. We are very much looking forward to implementing this, as it is one of the most important issues for an application that stores files with adequate backup in accordance with GDPR regulations.

Pros

  • Storing documents
  • Price
  • Backup policies
  • Redundancy mirroring
  • Reliability

Cons

  • GDPR back up policies per default
  • More polished UI (no that important tough)
  • Easier monitoring/notifcation when the bucket quota is reached

Likelihood to Recommend

For the document storage scenario it works well, we cannot complain because of the cost or the speed. But we also tried it to store data for an Elastic, with the help of a plugin. In this scenario was neither fast enough nor cost effective. Therefore when you need faster storage, the COS is less appropriate.

IBM COS review

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have used IBM COS, for my internal organisaation projects. In which I have used COS very often in building the real projects by intergrating with wx.ai . I have also used COS in storing the project files of various file types. The COS I used once for deploying a static html file for a quick showcase to the team manager within short period of deployment time.

Pros

  • Hosting Static html websites
  • For storing the essential file types such as pdf's, excel sheets. Very much appreciated to accept other programmetical files such as ipynb, py etc

Cons

  • It is Good to include the hosting of Dynamic websites

Likelihood to Recommend

It is well suited for me to host the websites with endpoints to the customer for a quick demo.

IBM Cloud Object Storage provides basic storage functionality at the best cost performance

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used IBM Cloud Object Storage to store all of the data from the actual production, including videos, images, and various types of sensing data from equipment in the actual factory in Thailand. We deployed over 100 cameras and sensors in the factory, storing the data in IBM Cloud Object Storage via the internet, and allowing the results to be retrieved and accessed from anywhere in the world. The biggest challenge is how to create a scalable system at a reasonable cost, since the data volume will be small in the initial stage and we know that the data volume will continue to increase every month. in the end, the data volume was about 150TB, but the cost did not hit our business operations.

Pros

  • cost performance
  • simple and easy to use
  • secure as usual

Cons

  • It would be useful if the data hierarchy could be made a little deeper.
  • performance of data deletion
  • undo or cancelation for data deletion

Likelihood to Recommend

As far as I can tell, it has better cost performance than any other cloud. This is a particularly promising service candidate for actual data accumulation, which requires the continuous retention of large amounts of data. Another attractive feature is that it can be used without using other services to guarantee security and performance.
