IBM Cloud Object Storages Review

Pros

  • IBM storage manages large and growing data smoothly and also keeps data safe and available for long time.
  • Easy to connect with analytics and AI tools, saving a great amount of time.
  • Strong security with encryption and access control. Easy to adapt and learn.

Cons

  • Access control is strong, but setting roles and policies not very simple. Needs better guidance.
  • Works well with IBM tools, but connecting with some third-party apps needs extra effort.

Return on Investment

  • Easier to meet data retention and audit rules. Encryption and access logs helped us pass 3 internal audits smoothly. Helped with compliance.
  • IT team spends less time fixing storage issues. That time now goes into innovation and support, boosting overall output.
  • Around 15–20% reduction in storage cost after moving to IBM Cloud Object Storage, thanks to auto-tiering and pay-as-you-use model.

  • Allows to avoid using physical media
  • Improve data migration performance

Storage that is secure and has a lot of free space

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

IBM Cloud Object Storage is mainly used to store client data objects for analysis, because it's been helpful for both small testing projects and large-scale storage needs.

Pros

  • the 25GB free storage is generous and great for testing or small-scale use
  • IBM provides different storage classes like Active, Smart Tier, Cool and Cold Vault, which makes it flexible based on what I need
  • migration was fast and smooth and their support desk really helped during the process

Cons

  • pricing is a little expensive
  • the data transfer speed is not that fast and I feel it should be improved
  • it can be a bit complicated to start

Return on Investment

  • i feel confident storing sensitive data because of its strong protection against deletion and modification
  • the 10TB capacity meets all our storage needs and leaves room to grow
  • being able to share and store documents across devices and teams makes day to day work smoother

IBM Cloud Object Storage Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use COS as document storage for our document management system, and it serves its purpose: it stores documents that can be retrieved at a reasonable speed and at a reasonable price.

Some time ago, we submitted a suggestion for improvement regarding the backup functions of COS. Recently, a significant improvement called “backup policies” was announced. We are very much looking forward to implementing this, as it is one of the most important issues for an application that stores files with adequate backup in accordance with GDPR regulations.

Pros

  • Storing documents
  • Price
  • Backup policies
  • Redundancy mirroring
  • Reliability

Cons

  • GDPR back up policies per default
  • More polished UI (no that important tough)
  • Easier monitoring/notifcation when the bucket quota is reached

Return on Investment

  • Storing files in a block storage would not be cost effective enough for us
  • Allowing to set quotas on bucket level, helps to control the cost
  • The fast deployment integrates well with our deployment process (application is ready in any minutes)

Alternatives Considered

IBM COS review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have used IBM COS, for my internal organisaation projects. In which I have used COS very often in building the real projects by intergrating with wx.ai . I have also used COS in storing the project files of various file types. The COS I used once for deploying a static html file for a quick showcase to the team manager within short period of deployment time.

Pros

  • Hosting Static html websites
  • For storing the essential file types such as pdf's, excel sheets. Very much appreciated to accept other programmetical files such as ipynb, py etc

Cons

  • It is Good to include the hosting of Dynamic websites

Return on Investment

  • time savings from automating manual data processing
  • Securing of Files
