Powerful and cost-effective load balancer

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Initially we purchased the Loadmaster to support the needs of the marketing website (performance and stability issues). But now it supports the whole organization to properly route requests to different systems for different groups of people. Loadmaster was instrumental in launching of the latest website iteration supporting the partial roll out alongside the mix of multiple systems. Content switching and header modification rules helped us overcome various challenges that we encountered. Powerful API lets us easily integration Loadmaster into our continuous delivery pipeline.

Pros

  • Performance
  • Powerful API
  • Variety of options

Cons

  • UI needs a refreshed modern look and feel

Likelihood to Recommend

Loadmaster is very powerful and flexible load balancer. Variety of options allows to create a complex network of rules and routes. During our website rollout Loadmaster allowed us to run multiple generations of the website simultaneously and seamlessly by doing the content switching on the fly. Powerful API allows easy integration into any development lifecycle.

Kemp LoadMaster - Definitely all the hype

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It is currently used to load the balance of all of our Alarm infrastructure creating redundancy to critical systems. This enables us to patch and perform maintenance at any time we wish. The support is also very fast under 1 hour for most issues which is critical to us for supporting the infrastructure for issues.

Pros

  • Load balance
  • Redundancy
  • Support service

Cons

  • Less technical
  • More presets
  • Template for certain types of services

Likelihood to Recommend

Definitely well suited in a high availability environment such as ours which supports alarms and CCTV infrastructure, without it we would really struggle to keep our environment patched and up to date for security. So any similar environment would also benefit from [Kemp LoadMaster]. It would be ideal for any sort of RDS farm or anything that needs load balancing such as websites, App servers, or file servers. Also ideal for internal load balancing. A less appropriate scenario is hard because if you don't need to load balance, then you don't need it, lol. So if there's a cheaper alternative to [Kemp LoadMaster] then that's your solution.

Cost-efficient, easy to implement solution for Exchange load balancing

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We needed a solution to load balance Exchange 2016 in a remote office in the event of a loss of connectivity to the main office. This site would have no onsite staff from the Exchange team so the solution needed to be reliable and easy to configure/monitor remotely. The site currently has 700 users and is growing. This, Kemp LoadMaster, was very easy to install and configure, and definitely exceeds expectations. The few times I have called support for configuration questions they were knowledgeable and responsive.

Pros

  • Easy to configure
  • Templates for many integrations
  • Great technical support

Cons

  • Not intuitive on how to fail over the active HA node.
  • Nothing else comes to mind.

Likelihood to Recommend

Perfect for a remote office in a large organization. The available Exchange templates had the product up and running in just a few hours.

Kemp LoadMaster is a rock solid load balancer

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our company has used Kemp LoadMasters for several years now for load balancing our Exchange servers and a couple of web applications. They run very smoothly, with no issues at all. Their support is great, which we only occasionally have recurred to for migrating web apps from other appliances to the Kemps. They are very knowledgeable and have been very helpful in completing our project goals. Would definitely recommend Kemp products.

Pros

  • Load balancing
  • Reliability
  • Robust support

Cons

  • GUI could use some improvement

Likelihood to Recommend

Any scenario that requires load balancing heavy traffic services, such as publicly accessible websites, email servers, FTP servers, databases, or even any internal services that might require a high availability setup.

Great On-Premises Load Balancer

We are using Kemp LoadMaster across our entire organization. We have an LB pair in our DMZ as well as a pair internal. We primarily use Kemp LoadMaster to load balance our ERP system and our DMZ-hosted websites. We've been happy with Kemp LoadMaster for 5+ years. The customer support, manuals, and appliance UI are outstanding.

Pros

  • The appliances are extremely stable.
  • The UI is easy to use.
  • Support is great, especially for someone just starting out.

Cons

  • Remembering to save certain individual pieces of the configuration while on the same configuration page can be confusing.

Likelihood to Recommend

Great for internal and external load balancers and a good price.

Kemp LoadMaster

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have implemented these for a few clients. They are quick and easy to get going and haven't failed us or our clients yet.

Pros

  • Manages the incoming web traffic for various applications.
  • Allows multiple connection to spread the incoming load in an efficient manner.
  • Extremely easy to implement and manage.

Cons

  • HA Setup and configuration
  • Lack of notification why you can't manage certain aspects if HA is misconfigured

Likelihood to Recommend

If a client has a need for multiple servers behind a single FQDN, then Kemp LoadMaster is an option. Additionally, if an RDS Gateway Farm is behind it, connections still reach the valid destination and stay connected over time.

Well suited for on-premises load balancer and SSL termination

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Kemp LoadMaster is being used as an on-premises load balancer and SSL termination. The product is easy to use in the browser interface. The API/CLI could use some more features to bring it on parity with the GUI. Overall it provides the needed features with ease of use and great support for our needs so far.

Pros

  • On-premises load balancing
  • SSL termination
  • Web GUI

Cons

  • API
  • CLI

Likelihood to Recommend

Well suited for on-premises load balancer and SSL termination; less appropriate for cloud based tasks. WUI is functional but API/CLI is lacking. If API/CLI were more secure/robust, it would be easier to use.
