For small organizations without this luxury, it would probably be too expensive and complicated to be worth it. … For email contact, we used VoterVoice, which was easier to use and less expensive, BUT it did not allow for integration with a CRM and it did not create truly unique contact files.

It's probably better just to buy the tool at the best price you can negotiate and understand you're going to have to invest in a lot of training over the first few years.

While Blackbaud (then Convio) was a bit more expensive it had a bit more functionality with the constituent database that we needed, but I don't know that one is clearly better than the other.
