Medium is the best place to get experience and showcase my portfolio.

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Medium as a portfolio for the various areas I've worked in and can teach. I also use it as a source for a "Publication" I've created, including others in the community and focusing on a subset of a subject. This is a way of showing prospective employers in my life that I have the necessary knowledge without subjecting them to a short and uninteresting resume.

Pros

  • Content categorization and grouping.
  • The option to make some money from sharing your passion and teaching.
  • Moderating content manually to not promote AI-generated content and boosting very authentic and impactful posts.

Cons

  • Making awareness for Publications.
  • A system to find writers for your publication.
  • Their content-revenue model.

Likelihood to Recommend

Medium is (almost entirely) human content. It covers every field and niche, as well as having Publications to either share or read about any specific topic you can think of.

Medium is not medium, it is top class!

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Medium as our blog. We publish all our articles to it and also use it to keep ourselves up to date on what's going on in the world. We use it because it has some great writers who write some great articles and do with some authority. We feel the people who use Medium are professional and authoritative.

Pros

  • Easy to read articles.
  • Short and digestible.
  • Quick summary of the highlights.

Cons

  • The payment wall can be confusing.
  • Hard to get traction if you're trying to go viral with an article.
  • Sometimes content gets buried too easily.

Likelihood to Recommend

Medium is the perfect blog because you don't need an external service. You don't need a server. You don't need updates or upgrades. It is easy to write articles on it. The articles can also be shared easily with multiple social networks. All in all, we find it an easy to use and clear platform that has helped us replace our old reliance on Wordpress.

Medium is one of the best blogging platforms

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Medium is the best platform for the reader/writer, as well as for the company, however, it has a spam score of 11% but still, I will recommend it because it's providing vast knowledge due to its large writer base.

Pros

  • Provides a lot of reading opportunity.
  • Large user base.

Cons

  • Spam score is at 11%.

Likelihood to Recommend

I am providing it only seven-point as it has an 11% spam score and due to that, I have deducted three points.

Medium: Find Your Voice Online and Become a Thought Leader

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Medium is a publishing platform that gives your business another place to show up with thought leadership on your specific industry, products or services. It is mainly used by our sales and marketing department. We use it craft stories and insights regarding anything as it relates to our field. By doing so, it helps present us as a thought leader and potential problem solver for the reader.

Pros

  • User-friendly interface and editing features
  • Easy to categorize articles to ensure they are found
  • Change tracker helps review changes before article is published.

Cons

  • Due to how easy it is to publish, there is a lot of irrelevant noise in this space
  • As with most social media sites, most users tend to troll or just be angry - could be better vetting of members
  • Fake news: it is also hard to tell what is real journalism and what is opinion based

Likelihood to Recommend

I think despite the fact that it is subject to the content created by a variety of people with good and bad intentions in mind, it is a great space to have your voice heard. When used in the business setting, it allows companies and product-enthusiasts to go beyond 140 characters to really give their take on why you should hear what they have to say. For true, verified thought leadership, it's still best to get published in an industry magazine though.

Top not interface and user experience.

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Medium is a highly visible blogging platform with an excellent feature set and UX. Medium is used as an alternative to the company's primary blog for any posts that either promote the company, blog or sometimes clients. Because Medium already has a large following the click-through and impressions of these posts can be quite high.

Pros

  • User Experience - Their UX is top notch.
  • Feature set - Minimal, but not overwhelmingly simple. They've found an excellent balance.
  • Design.
  • Low barrier to entry - All you need is a twitter account to get started.

Cons

  • Honestly can't think of any.

Likelihood to Recommend

It really depends on the need. I don't see Medium as a place for all of your blog posts. It's not a dumping ground-- it's better suited for your best posts. If you're posting something to gain extra exposure about your company, brand or another subject it's an excellent resource because it's easily discoverable. Choose what's posted to Medium wisely.

Medium.com - Great way to repurpose your content to a new audience

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Medium.com is a part of our content marketing strategy as a clear, easy platform to publish our content to and reach a wider (yet still relevant) audience.

We create and publish content on a range of relevant sites for us, but Medium offers a simple, self editable way to build a following, engage, link back and reach audiences that might not otherwise have found our content.

Pros

  • Easy usage, clear, good features to embed media from video to image.
  • If using the import tool, Medium adds rel=canonical automatically.
  • Great way to engage with, tag and encourage engagement with a relevant readership.

Cons

  • It can be harder to get your content seen as medium is a popular platform.
  • It is still early days for us to track back success (traffic, rank etc) from posting to medium regularly. I hear tracking success outside vanity metrics can be hard for others too.
  • I am yet to figure out how to create and add to magazines - these have the potential to be a good audience booster, but not too clear.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you're already producing quality, helpful content to your audience, and are looking for third party sites to republish to build traction, Medium is great - and as many businesses find, this can be beneficial to both your following and search rank.

It will require work on engagement though, and regular posting.

Medium: Editor is Sharp, Content Marketing? Meh

Rating: 5 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Medium is part of our content marketing strategy. We create original content that we publish on our website and on various 3rd party websites. Since cross-linking helps to increase a site's authority, we link to related content on the various sites where we publish. Medium allows us to reach an audience that might never see our website through traditional searches. It also gives us another outlet where we can publish without fear that our content will be mangled by an external editor.

Pros

  • The editor is surprisingly robust and easy to use.
  • Embedding media - while not intuitive - is very easy.
  • The default formatting of content is visually quite pleasing. It's nice to not worry about that.

Cons

  • I think the broad reach of Medium is both a strength and a weakness. It is one more place where we can reach a ton of people, and likewise one more place where we can get lost in the noise.
  • The way you select topics to appear in your feed is pretty simple, but I find that I get a lot of stuff I am not remotely interested in. I don't know if that is because my topic selection was poor, or if the publishers tagged their pieces poorly, or something else.
  • I am still not 100% convinced that Medium is worth our content marketing efforts. On the one hand, it is visually appealing and easy to access. On the other hand, I cannot yet tie any particular marketing success back to our efforts on Medium.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you are vanity publishing and just want to see your stuff on the web, it is very, VERY easy to get involved with. Of course, your writing is not likely to stand out if you don't have a clear plan.

The more I use it, the more I like it. The user interface is extremely well-done. I kinda wish my WordPress-based blogs had editors that were that easy to use.

Medium: Blogging for Professionals

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

With my writing and design, I personally use Medium as a way to gain followers. I'm able to gain followers on the site itself and it encourages readers to follow me and other writers on Twitter as well. It's been doing a nice job of building followers on both. Once I have people's attention, I hope to switch attention more into something that can be of monetary value.

Pros

  • Create a following on the website.
  • Gain Twitter followers.
  • Provide a space where it is very simple to post writing.

Cons

  • Medium might benefit from having discussion boards for writers.
  • Medium could be improved if it helped compensate writers on the site.
  • Right now, you need to refresh your bookmarks page to show updates. It would be nice if it updated automatically.

Likelihood to Recommend

Medium is a very good platform for professionals sharing advice and experiences. It's great for seeing fresh perspectives on current events and finding stories that are relevant to you. Tags make it easy to target your niche audience. However, Medium is not ideal for people who want to write more mundane personal blogs, poems, or short stories. The platform is simple for this, but that type of writing doesn't often get much exposure.
