As a consultant at Bizzomate I primarily use Mendix as an advanced tool to help our customers to address their business needs. Currently I work on an app that aims to streamline document processing for my client. Within this organization Mendix is also used for several other use-cases, ranging from internal auditing to client dashboard applications.
  • Rapid development; Mendix is low-code and this way offers a faster approach to software development.
  • Easy to learn; Mendix can be learned by doing and is supported by good tutorials and a well supported community of developers.
  • Keeping up with their own position; I believe Mendix does a good job trying to stay on top of the low code platforms.
  • Mendix is becoming better in the mobile domain. There is still some work [needed] but they made great improvements since Mendix 7.
  • Personally I think Mendix is somewhat expensive; I believe their pricing model could be improved for medium-sized enterprises.
Mendix is the program for organizations that have an agile mindset, for organizations that believe that change is key for sustainable growth. Also Mendix is the development tool for organizations that want the business to be in control of IT instead of the other way around.
In the same vain I believe Mendix to be less appropriate for organizations that lack the above vision.
  • Mendix allowed my organization to grow in terms of profit but also in terms of satisfaction
PowerApps is much harder to learn. It lacks the robustness of Mendix; if a detail is lacking in PowerApps the app won't run and it takes much time to debug.
Mendix is build to work for Scrum teams. I think Microsoft could learn a lot from the way working on one app by diverse members is done by Mendix.
I think their support system is really professional. They answer question quickly and accurately. They have a ticket system that allows to track the current status of a request. The only point for imporvement is a way for me to postpone an answer. Tickets get closed automatically after some time. I feel that the user should have the option to change to an on hold status, allowing for more time to respond to a ticket.
Yes
Yes. always in a timely fashion. Not always to my satisfaction but that is because the solution to bugs is not always on the roadmap for the next release.
Yes during one occasion Mendix found a memory problem not directly related to the problem at hand. They helped out on both issues without additional costs.

At Mansystems we use Mendix as the platform of choice to deliver solutions to our customers. Six years ago, a team of three people including myself rebuilt our service management solution, ExpertDesk completely in Mendix. In three months we had the basics and in nine months we were ready to go to market. After this period we sold and implemented ExpertDesk a lot. To support ExpertDesk better we developed tooling for the Mendix platform. Using our experience we also started doing Mendix projects other than ExpertDesk.
At this point in time Mendix is selling our automated testing solution (ATS) and our application performance monitor and we are developing those tools further together with Mendix.
And we have a healthy professional services business around Mendix.
  • Mendix takes care of everything from creation to delivery and support. A full loop. Not many people comprehend the impact of using a platform that covers model driven design, single click deployment, browser, tablet and mobile, scrum support, automated testing, monitoring and feedback loop.
  • Mendix helps creating applications in all kinds of manners. From templates, an AppStore, standard integration points to demanding consistency with the error checker that with a double click brings you to the place of the error
  • Mendix is open. That means you can extend the platform in all layers. For the client you can develop widgets and leverage the full potential of the browser or mobile device. On the server you can write java or use web services, rest services or even built in AppServices to design a Mendix component based ecosystem. The is also a model SDK to write tooling and automate anything you can model by hand.
  • Mendix is easy to use. It uses visual models for data (domain models), logic (flows) and screens. Mendix has extended documentation, a very active community with a forum and a developer portal, a large set of blogs, video's to support new users, a training program.
  • With creation and automated testing covered, I recommend them addressing documentation ease. They could design a hyperlink based system into versions of the model, so you could use a kind of CMS to manage business app documentation and present it in a structured way.
  • The sprintr (agile/scrum) solution could be enhanced to better support assigning tasks to users and manage per user stuff like capacity
Mendix is well suited for any app you can think of. Mendix integrates well and you can have a solution very very fast. Of course it is advised to integrate into complex stuff like machine learning environments and not model them yourselves in Mendix. Also Mendix is overkill for a simple website or a CMS.

  • With Mendix we can develop solutions at least 6 times faster. These are medium to large sized enterprise grade solutions that need good security, good performance, good testability.
  • We developed tools to automate testing in Mendix and do performance monitoring in Mendix and that helped our business further
  • You can leverage on consultants that do not have hard programming skills to be very good business consultants and use the Mendix modeler. This gets you closer to the customer and delivers great solutions. Off course you can arrange a specialist when needed, but most work can be done by what you call citizen developers
We used to use BMC Remedy ARS as a solution platform. Mendix was better on most parts that are important to us: ease of use, visual modeling, consistency, price, cloud, mobile devices, AppStore, widgets, the list goes on.

Yes
BMC Remedy ARS was replaced, because developing in Mendix is a lot faster, the platform is a lot more complete. It's cloud based. Supports mobile.

We value the ability of citizen developers and thus less technical business consultants to model solutions for the customer. This bridges the gap between business and IT. This leverages on people we other skills, especially in knowing your customer and understanding their business domain.
The seamless deployment and full life cycle support from requirements, development, test, acceptance, production, feedback in a agile way is really helping us to deliver fast.
Mendix turns out to have a very active community and great support. We should have included that in the selection as well.
The combination of a forum, a support desk, expert services and great partners make that you can solve just about any issue.
Yes
I've reported multiple bugs. If high impact it is solved as fast as possible. If low impact they will nicely communicate when to expect the solution.
What i find really exceptional is when feature requests are picked up and become part of the solution. In the past I had a time saving feature when setting permissions to individual attributes. This time saver was implemented and saved me a lot of time!!

Last year the started with the idea forum where the community can vote on ideas. They implement the top ideas.
  • Graphical flow charts for business flow functionality, for GUI flows, for event handlers, for anything that is a flow.
  • Develop in the same platform for browser, mobile and tablet
  • Consistency checks help me to refactor fast and often and hence iterate well in an agile manner
  • Reporting is mostly done with additions from the AppStore. The integrated graphical reporting is too limited.
  • PDF templating is also mostly done with additions from the AppStore. The integrated PDF templates lack a few often needs features like including dynamic graphs from reports.
Yes
Really well. You can reuse most of what you developed already. You can additionally design specific mobile screens. Mendix supports an offline database and custom widgets on mobile.
A 10 would say I have nothing to wish for. A 9 means I haven't seen anything better. This tool really helps you in the whole creation and maintenace cycle, so from requirements to building/modeling to testing to deploying to capturing feedback.

At Daywize we use Mendix as our development platform to build our HR solution. We first used the Cordys platform before that but that was no success. The Mendix platform is ideal to develop quickly. This way we can build a standard solution, but still are able to adjust our product to our specific client needs. This way 80% of a certain module is the same for all our customers but we always change that last 20% to accommodate specific client needs. Mendix helps us also to connect to other systems to get data in or out. SOAP, Rest webservices or OData services are built easily and importing or exporting from or to Excel is a breeze. The openness of the Mendix system is a real bonus. And because you develop in a graphic environment you can make a business process visible so you can discuss the result with the business owner. You can truly develop in days instead of weeks or months.
  • Fast. Build solutions in days instead of weeks. Mendix is an ideal tool for really making SCRUM work. Iterate fast and develop features fast. And if it does not work as intended you can adapt quickly.
  • Open. The customer is the owner of the data so it should be easy to get data in or out. Mendix shines in this area. You can use Mendix to become the oil between the other information systems. Extract from one system, enrich the data and export it to another system.
  • Mobile. Making the product available on a phone or tablet is a must these days. With Mendix you can do this.
  • Document templates. These are a weak point. Creating them takes too much time compared to how fast you can build other stuff in Mendix. You can achieve your goals but it will take you some time.
  • The Mendix license cost is something to be considered. For small companies the license cost can be steep if the free version is too limited for your goal. The step from the free version to the paid version is too steep in my opinion.
If time to market is important and the license cost is not a problem Mendix is probably the tool for you. With the free version you can test the application and the only difference with the full version is the amount of users being able to use the application. This way you can pitch your ideas within your organization and if it works you can then implement your ideas fast.

  • Without Mendix we could not have been where we are now. A development platform as Mendix can make the difference in a constantly changing environment.
  • Upgrading to newer versions of Mendix is a breeze when you stay within a main version (e.g. M6.x to Mx6.x+1) and even between versions (Mx5 to Mx6) most of the time it is no problem at all and there are only minor changes needed to upgrade.
  • Learning Mendix is simple. Just start playing with it and see for yourself how easy it is and feel the joy of developing applications.
Cordys has cost us a lot of money. Mendix and OutSystems are similar products but we just liked Mendix better. The Mendix community is really helpful. You get answers in hours when you post a question on their forum. And the Mendix's help desk is also always there to help you out if you run into a problem.
No
The response even without premium support is good for us so we do not need it. But if you need 24/7 instead of only working hours it is available for a reasonable price.
Response times are quick and you will get updates regularly about the status of your request. Even with very technical questions they have specialists that can help you with your problems it will give you an answer or help you with a work around.
Yes
Yes, like every platform bugs do happen. But bugs in Mendix are resolved quickly. They have a very steady and stable release schedule and if it is a sever bug they will release hotfixes.
Yes, we needed a SAML single sign on sollution for a new customer. Now you can just download this module from their appstore but at the time it was not available. It was created for us in a couple of days so we could still release our product for this customer on time.
