Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Familiar system to any user of the operating system. All I have to do is start the application and access all its features. It is this familiarity with the operating system that makes Windows a preferred choice for many businesses. Many organizations have preferred operating systems like Windows 2021 or Windows XP. These operating systems are extremely efficient but are not very user-friendly.

I think this is one of the outstanding Microsoft products. We use this to host the fantastic applications that we've put online. Microsoft Application Server allows us to reliably and quickly categorize our internal software to our remote workers. It lets remote users access legacy and on-premises applications. Installing the application locally on the user's system is not required. We deployed, managed, and updated on-prem apps from a single location. Our remote staff and clients use it to run applications.

Pros

Microsoft Application Server has proven to be highly reliable and effective at deploying to all of its clients.
Application performance is surprisingly good and responsive even in bandwidth-constrained environments and generally very reliable.
All software programs are manageable from a single location, even when bandwidth is limited.

Cons

It must support more environments, and Microsoft hotfixes and service packs frequently necessitate server reboots when they are applied.
Updates for both security and general release necessitate a restart.
Updates sometimes necessitate restarts, resulting in downtime and the need for more videos for users.

Likelihood to Recommend

Regardless of the environment, Microsoft Application Server is used to manage internal applications. Installing legacy software on the computers of end-users is a cinch with this solution. It provides a central location for updating and managing legacy applications. It is less valuable if you're using only web-based and cloud-based apps.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our EIT department has especially utilized Microsoft Application Server this year to help combat the whole COVID situation and working remotely. We have been able to use it to connect to our servers through the web instead of being stationary on our office.

For our organization, having this software has allowed us to continue using our servers and programs throughout this year at ease.

Microsoft Application Server has been incredible this past year during COVID. Previously I would have said that we could go without it, but after this past season, I’m glad we have utilized it. Without having this software set up prior to COVID, we would have been in a tough situation. I mention COVID a lot because we were able to continue our work almost seamlessly this entire year.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use MS Application to enable our remote users to use our legacy or on-premises applications without the need to install the application locally on the end-users' system, or set up complex network environments. This has enabled us to have one central location to deploy, manage, and update our on-prom and legacy applications.

Pros

Enables you to host on-prem and legacy applications remotely without the complexity.
MS Application Server has been rock solid and requires very little maintenance.
You have the ability to manage your on-prem and legacy applications in one centralized location.
Applications are very fast and responsive even while being access remotely.

Cons

Some security hotfixes and general release updates require restarts.
We wish it supported more applications out of the box.
Thin client support would be great for MS Application Server.

MS Application Server is great at enabling your remote users to access on-premises and legacy applications remotely without the need for complex infrastructure or application installs on the remote computers. This enables you to manage on-prem and legacy applications in one central location. This is great for maintaining those application, and for security reasons.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

MS Application Server is used by our remote staff and clients. Some of our applications require installation on physical systems since they are legacy applications. MS Application Server has enabled us to centralize application management to two servers and eliminated the need to update every single user's computer via scripts and deployments. This has saved us valuable resources in our IT department.

Pros

Microsoft Application Server has been very stable. We have had very few issues with downtime except for updates.
We now have a central location to manage and update our legacy apps without the need to install each app on each user's system.
Application performance is surprisingly very good and responsive even in bandwidth restricted environments.

Cons

Wish MS Application Server has support for more third-party providers.
Patching the server requires reboots which is a common issue with MS hotfixes and service packs.
Cheaper technical support options from Microsoft would be great.

MS Application is great for legacy applications that require actual app installs on endpoint user computers. It provides a central location to update and manage your legacy application and eliminates the need to install applications locally on the end-users computer. It's less well suited if you run all your applications from the cloud and they are web-based.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

One of the best Microsoft Products. MS Application Server enables us to provide our internal software to our internal and remote workforce users that's fast and reliable. The old days of you having to install applications is gone this has reduced IT staff man-hours by providing a central location where all applications are installed and updated.

Pros

One central location to administer all your applications from.
Has been rock solid for us with little to no downtime.
Applications are fast and responsible even with bandwidth restrictions.

Cons

Cheaper support from Microsoft would be great.
Wish there was a thin client option.

MS Application Server is great for any environment that requires you to run internal applications that are not accessible via for compliance reasons. If you don't require adhering to compliance requirements then MS Application Server might be overkill since more applications have been ported over to being web-accessible.

It works like a dream. We use Microsoft Application Server for our remote users to be able to access internal applications. It also basically eliminates the need for us to install applications on each client machine. This saves time and money. It centralizes multiple applications into one platform.

Pros

Great at being able to deploy to all users.
Very little maintenance is required and generally very reliable.
Centralized management of all applications.

Cons

Wished Microsoft would offer better support options that are cheaper.
Updates sometimes require restarts which cause downtime.
More support for 3rd part software vendors.

Microsoft Application Server is great to centralize management, patching, and deployment of all your business internal applications for internal and external users. It's great for enterprise deployments but a little overkill for smaller deployments of under 100 users.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it to house our applications that we deploy remotely. Works great. I would recommend it any day. Some issues at times but nothing a server reboot won't fix, either VM server or actual physical one. Only issue is with citrix.

Pros

It can be deployed anywhere.
It is reliable.
Does not break down often.
Easy to fix when it goes down.

Cons

It needs to be able to support more environments such as thin clients.

Likelihood to Recommend

We have our physical server as well as the application server located in one city and we work out of a remote office - we are able to have a tunnel to the server remotely and access all the apps we need. For that it is a life saver, thank you.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

At this time the Server is being used by the Fiance Department. We use the server for our MIP and Microix Software. We are able to connect the the server as users to perform all our accounting and timekeeping duties with ease.

Pros

I am not an IT person. The server is easy to use and is set up like you are using a normal desk top.
Since it is able to have more than one hard drive, we can mirror our applications on a different hard drive. This will be useful in the event the current hard drive we are accessing fails.
We have not problems with the speed of the server. Tasks are performed quickly no matter how many users are utilizing it.

Cons

We did have an issue with the time on the server. It actually read 6 hours ahead of time upon start up. This really played havoc with our time clock. Our IT person had to write a script to correct this issue.
Upon start up it will initially tell us there is an error, but when we bring up the report there is actually no error. Maybe this is the time thing.
We have only been using the Current Server for about 2 years now. So I am sure we haven't had time to run into to many other issues.

Likelihood to Recommend

The server is great for housing databases that are going to be utilized by different individuals in the agency. However, if your company is fairly small and does not require the amount of storage this server has, it may be more economical to just have a desk top.
