Pros

  • Robust document sharing and access control with granular permissions
  • Effective collaboration features, including simultaneous editing and version control
  • Reliable large-scale data storage and management, particularly with SQL

Cons

  • Unintuitive navigation and search capabilities, making content difficult to locate
  • Requires technical expertise for customization and can be less user-friendly for general users
  • Difficulties with file management, including moving files and potential misplacement

Sharepoint --- better than Google Docs.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SharePoint is our main software for maintaining a variety of docs-- Excel sheets, how-to docs, historical imports for 7+ years, audit prep, etc. We transitioned from Google Drive, by and large, to SharePoint about two years ago. It's been fantastic to have actual Excel sheets that don't lose formulas or formatting.

Pros

  • Maintains formulas and formatting in Excel.
  • Allows for collaborating on files internally and externally.
  • Easy, accurate search-- just ensure your team uses informative titles.

Cons

  • Constantly logging in from being kicked out-- though there's a chance that's my company's security protocol
  • Feels less keyboard-first friendly, more clickable

Return on Investment

  • Rapid sharing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Easy upload/drag and drop capability.
  • Low training effort-- easy to use.

Microsoft SharePoint - Revenue Cycle Educational Materials Storage Access

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use SharePoint for our revenue cycle educational/ training tools & resources. We have documents stored along with recorded Webinars on various topics. In addition, we have commonly used links to access websites, applications, reporting tools, etc.

Pros

  • Recorded Webinars
  • Application Links including Facility FAQs
  • Training documents, PPT documents, Announcements, etc.

Cons

  • I've had an issue recently moving a recorded Webinar to the correct/ desired location on the SharePoint Site.
  • It would be helpful to be able to access Webinars that would help/ assist the "owner(s)" of the SharePoint Site.
  • The more "user friendly" Microsoft can make SharePoint for both the "owner(s)" of the Site and users... the better.
  • Are there existing tools that can tell "owners" of the Site what documents, recorded Webinars, application links, etc. are actually reviewed/ accessed?

Return on Investment

  • Overall, the product achieves a very strong ROI. It would just be good as stated previously if we knew how many users access not only the Site but specific documents, applications, etc. inside the Site.

MS SharePoint / SQ

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use MS SharePoint to share documents and handle workflow options. We use SQL in our test and production environments. We use it for Acumatica (our ERP) and our client facing websites/billing.

Pros

  • SQL has come a long way in reliability and dependability. It allows large datasets and does really well with JSON.
  • MS SharePoint works well with sharing files and workflow

Cons

  • I honestly can't think of any. Maybe change control?

Usability

Other Software Used

Microsoft Visual Studio

Great tool to add to your Toolbox

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use SharePoint as a "Home Screen" for internal staff. When you open your browser, it defaults to this screen. It is used to navigate most departmental functions and link you to your software that you need to use as well. This helps with making everything an employee may need centrally localized in one spot.

Pros

  • Building of the Site is Easy
  • Linking softwares/sites/procedures in one spot
  • easy navigation

Cons

  • Things can get lost in folders
  • Can be a little glitchy at times

Return on Investment

  • Positive impact on spreading of information
  • One database for all information
