Motive

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Motive for our ELD Tracking, Faults in Tractors, IFTA Calculating. It is very vital to have this in our trucks for all of the reasons I stated we use it for. It has caught faults in our tractors before our drivers have and it has probably saved us thousands in truck repairs that were caught early.

Pros

  • Fault Codes
  • IFTA Tracking
  • Integrations
  • ELD Tracking
  • ELD Monitoring
  • Safety Monitoring

Cons

  • Coaching is not really needed for every time the driver goes over the speed limit
  • Load tracking or Load Monitoring for Dispatchers within the platform
  • Dispatch system like ITS Dispatch

Return on Investment

  • IFTA Calculating done correctly
  • Routing done correctly
  • Saved on Taxes

Alternatives Considered

ARI (Auto Repair Software), Truckstop ITS Dispatch, RepairShopr, Shopmonkey and Fullbay

Other Software Used

Shopmonkey, ARI (Auto Repair Software), Truckstop Load Board

Motive and a few thoughts on GPS

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Motive was used to track location of our fleet, alert us when driver entered or exited the GPS fence. It also allowed us to track speed and other type of alerts important to our business. Camera that faced forward was good but not great. At least we could see immediately infront of driver but function, ease of use and response was awful. We also used the software to track overal maint and performace. This software was not user friendly and lost track of vehicles multiple times. I always had to resort to alternative methods to check on status of maint items (i.e. brake check and oil changes).

Pros

  • monotoring of location specifice to time date
  • Filtering through history to find acitivity
  • Locatoin stamp during any alert given

Cons

  • software is diffictult to change or update for maint issues when a primary change occurs ie new transmission
  • software is difficult to learn
  • Software support assumes we all use the software exactly the same.

Return on Investment

  • Savings to fuel and fuel effeciencies are a positive factor. The ability to use it as a tool to share with drivers and staff make a big difference.
  • Using alerts to coach and trian keeps our safety records up to speed and a positive morale booster as well as savings.

You need this if you have vehicles

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As operations manager we use Motive for our planning, location tracking, servicing, safety and logbook management. being able to integrate all of these functions helps streamline our operation and the added fuel card allows cost tracking for each vehicle. We have Motive running on a large screen, so we all know the location of our branch vehicles. We can have service schedules added and keep track of the drivers logbook and safety. The cameras allow for added safety, both for the driver and the public at large. The Motive program is easy to use and has a range of tools to suit most operations.

Pros

  • Location tracking and time management
  • AI Camera assessments for driver and their skills
  • Cost management - when using Motive card and other cost tools

Cons

  • Mobile interface can be a bit confusing
  • Some AI assessments are to narrow
  • Need a rear facing external camera

Return on Investment

  • Safer drivers
  • Efficient route planning
  • Customer information on delivery times

Stone Profit System, Paycom, Microsoft 365 Business Premium
