Overall Satisfaction with Motive
Motive was used to track location of our fleet, alert us when driver entered or exited the GPS fence. It also allowed us to track speed and other type of alerts important to our business. Camera that faced forward was good but not great. At least we could see immediately infront of driver but function, ease of use and response was awful. We also used the software to track overal maint and performace. This software was not user friendly and lost track of vehicles multiple times. I always had to resort to alternative methods to check on status of maint items (i.e. brake check and oil changes).
Pros
- monotoring of location specifice to time date
- Filtering through history to find acitivity
- Locatoin stamp during any alert given
Cons
- software is diffictult to change or update for maint issues when a primary change occurs ie new transmission
- software is difficult to learn
- Software support assumes we all use the software exactly the same.
- Savings to fuel and fuel effeciencies are a positive factor. The ability to use it as a tool to share with drivers and staff make a big difference.
- Using alerts to coach and trian keeps our safety records up to speed and a positive morale booster as well as savings.
Alerts! Alerts! As safety is a primary concern in our industry and many like ours. We take it very seriosly. Having the ability to monitor individual drivers is a significant advantage. We can hone our training, coaching and safety concerns directly to an idividual driver or situtaion. This makes it particularly nice to brag to our community about our safety record. It allows for qualitative and measureable results to share. It's not just us telling a story it is showing it to our ridres. Showing numbers of reduced episodes. Down to specific numbers of hard brakes or hard corners by driver. Thus reducing costly accidents or repairs! There can be no better emphasis on safety for our drivers and our riders. This puts us in an elite category and allows for our customers to trust us and depend on us too!
We had put cameras in for about a year (maybe a little longer). Due to the high cost we took them out per the owners request. As operations I relied on them for safety, review of hard brake or accidents. They were crucial in showing what really happens or happened. At this point we are seeking alternatives and with AI and other technology we think this will get better and more affordable.
We have not yet moved away from Motive. The research stage is ongoing. If the competition won't do at least the basics, espcecially tracking, milage, location, maintanence and alerts we won't even consider them. If they perform on the basic level we will compare side by side what are the advantages and disadvantages along with the cost. Cost will be a primary factor when and if we make a final decision.
