Day-to-day use of Ontraport in a coaching company

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have a coaching company. We use Ontraport for CRM, page editor, emailing, reporting, purchase product pages.

It allows all admin, operation, content and marketing team to work on it.

Ontraport accompanies to turn our prospects into clients and to access their informations at anytime. It is very convenient as we can easily personalize the tools to meet our needs.

Pros

  • Create purchasing pages
  • Email prospects & customers
  • Monitor data
  • Follow-up on our prospects that becomes customers

Cons

  • When creating groups there's some condition that can't be used together (we would like to use "OR" rather than "AND")
  • Allow multiple users to access to one automation at the same time (as viewers not editors)
  • Gather data on email deliverability

Likelihood to Recommend

Here are some cases where Ontraport is well suited :

- When writing emails, you can easily access to preview, manage the changes and go back to what you did before

- When using automations, if there's an error, you can go back to a previous version of it. There are also some super tools that allows to see where a clients is on an automation without having to go through the all automation.

It is less appropriate when you are several colleague that are addressing an issue on an email/automation as it doesn't allows you to be multiple person on the item.

Deeply disappointed

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Ontraport for our customer facing, daily newsletter. Our company is quite new and the list is very fresh.

Pros

  • Sales department.
  • Ease of customer service contact.
  • Look/feel of email templates.

Cons

  • Deliverability.
  • Customer service.
  • Data tracking.
  • Pricing.
  • Communication.
  • Ease of use.
  • Trust.

When we began with them we spent nearly 2.5 hours in various phone conversations to both make sure they could meet our needs and then working to connect their service to our sites. <div>

</div><div>As we are sending daily we required a more robust package which they were happy to set us up with. </div><div>

</div><div>Issues began from day 1. Our open rates with an optin list sending highly relevant content were almost all under 9%. Most in the 5% ranges. </div><div>

</div><div>This, at least for me (having well over 126k subscribers with another provider since 2004) was unheard of. It turns out they are unable to pass DMARK. </div><div>

</div><div>Beyond that, we discovered nearly weekly “overage” charges that should not have been associated with the plan they had put us on. When we contacted them they flat out refused to reverse them &amp; insisted we have another call to upgrade to the service we had been told we were already paying for. </div><div>

</div><div>Many other issues also exist: 2x and 4x repeat sends to the subscribers and a dash that indicates our list is 25% larger than it is. </div>

Ontraport the automation king

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Ontraport to collect data (marketing), automate processes (change fields based on others), Sales processes and automate documents to clients. We have had to use external services to achieve all this.

Pros

  • Automation
  • Customer Service
  • Ease of use
  • Customization
  • 3rd Party Integrations
  • API

Cons

  • Appointment settings and reminders (have to use Zapier to link with Google Calendar)
  • No mobile app

Likelihood to Recommend

Ontraport is more suited to those looking for an all-around-system (marketing, sales, post-sales etc) rather than a sales only type system like Pipedrive. With some basic computer skills, a few integrations and a good Upworks Dev you can achieve almost anything.

It's not suited to computer illiterate people.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Ontraport is our all in one system that is the brain of the business. Sales, marketing, and accounting use it for different reasons. Ontraport takes the pain out of having to have multiple places to pull in data from. We use the dashboard to see where we are at every day. Instead of trying to make 8 different products talk to each other we use Ontraport and it gives us a clear picture of the business.

Pros

  • Dashboards for our daily stats.
  • The email follows up and broadcasts are simple and easy.
  • Sales and marketing can now see the impact they have working together. Nobody can point finger anymore.
  • They have the best customer support. I can't tell you how many times they have walked me through the problems that I created.
  • Amazing email inboxing.

Cons

  • CRM could be better. It works but is not as robust as I would like. It works fine but I want more reporting.
  • The membership plug works fine but I want more details on what each member does and how they use the membership. I am sure I could find that but its not easy and I don't have time.
  • I don't really get the hang of the landing page builder. But that's me vs them.

Likelihood to Recommend

Starting a business you have enough stuff to deal with. Ontraport takes the headache out of the tech side. Everything works together and you don't ever get left alone to figure things out. I would beg any new business to invest in Ontraport. Or if you want to grow and scale an existing business it would be great. I think it more for service-based business.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Ontraport to gather leads &amp; lead them through content nurture sequences. I also use it to sell offers, and use their membership plugin with my WordPress site to host my membership content &amp; give the right people access to the right things.

Pros

  • Tracking numbers & data and displaying them to you.
  • Segmenting really well & opportunities for more segmenting.
  • Seeing contact history.

Cons

  • Making things a little more intuitive. It's a huge tool, and sometimes if you don't know exactly where to click & what to click on, you're SOL.

Likelihood to Recommend

It works really well for a person like me who has one small business, but with multiple sides to it. I can easily use Ontraport to market to both sides &amp; manage the crossovers well where they happen.

ONTRAPORT can meet your sales needs!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

ONTRAPORT is being used to consolidate our contacts. We previously had information on several software products and we want to consolidate and use ONTRAPORT for our mass marketing campaigns. By our consolidating our contact information, we are able to more accurately tag our donors for report pulling and mailing to our donors.

Pros

  • ONTRAPORT has a great funnel system where you can drag and drop certain actions to do a variety of things within the system. For example, you can tag all donors that gave january 2018 - December 2018 as 2018 donors.
  • ONTRAPORT allows you to customize the information you want on each record by allowing custom fields
  • Import is pretty easy once you get the hang of your custom fields.

Cons

  • ONTRAPORT is a sales software so for historical donor information, it is not very easy to keep track of.
  • You should make sure that your software integrates with ONTRAPORT. Some software, like Shopify, integrates easier.

Likelihood to Recommend

ONTRAPORT is definitely well-suited for sales businesses and companies. This allows you to track sales from various imports while tracking individual information on customers. You can essentially track and build any reporting you would like with the drag and drop system. However, this is not as well-suited for nonprofits as it does not track historical donor data.

ONTRAPORT is A Great Tool For Automating Sales & Marketing Messages

Rating: 6 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ONTRAPORT as our CRM and email marketing campaign platform. ONTRAPORT does a great job helping us keep our marketing and sales messaging segmented by where our prospects are at in the marketing and sales funnels. We can easily create and push out messaging to specific users and automate nearly every marketing task we have in ONTRAPORT.

Pros

  • User segmentation for specific messaging is key for us because it helps drive our new client conversions and existing client repurchasing.
  • ONTRAPORT plays nice with our scheduling software and WordPress so we can implement new material without hassle.
  • Campaigns and automation is simple to set up and monitor which helps us use more of their tools instead of paying for complex features we'll never use.

Cons

  • Wish they had more options for their forms. Would really like to use multi-step forms.
  • A lot of times their forms load slowly on the website. Would like to see them speed up their services.
  • Their broadcasting options are legacy. There are better options out there for sending broadcast messages.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you have multiple offers, or points of entry where you generate leads, I like ONTRAPORT a lot. You can build out centralized campaigns which make it very easy to manage your messaging and monitor performance. They're also good for multiple users, as each user can customize the interface to suit. I don't really like ONTRAPORT for a CRM though.

The Best Campaign Builder You'll Ever Use

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ONTRAPORT in just about every department of our business. It's our contact management software, it's where we build most of our sales/landing pages for our offerings, it's how we manage email campaigns, it's how we manage registrations to our retreats and events. It does a great job at the majority of those things.

Pros

  • ONTRAPORT is stellar for building campaigns. Their visual editor is somehow completely user-friendly and insanely powerful. The ability to so easily set up a chain of dozens of events, conditions, and outcomes is a huge asset. It's easy to segment users based on things they've bought, sequences they've opted into, etc., and send them down automated funnels.
  • ONTRAPORT's page builder is great for basic-to-intermediate level sales/landing pages. It's certainly not perfect, but it does allow pretty much anyone to build a nice, clean, mobile-responsive landing page.
  • ONTRAPORT's contact management is extremely powerful. If you can think of a way you'd like to tag, organize, manage, segment, or otherwise manipulate contact data, Ontraport almost certainly has it built right in.

Cons

  • The page builder is... quirky at best, and sometimes outright frustrating. Blocks will often behave unpredictably, and there are a handful of pretty obnoxious bugs you eventually just learn to work around (for instance, after uploading and selecting an image to insert into a block, you need to move your cursor and hit "Save" on that block. In between your current cursor position and the Save button, there are a handful of stock placeholder images. On its route to the Save button, your cursor of course hovers across these images momentarily. This causes them to autofill into the block in the same split second you hit 'Save,' which means you now have a stock image in your block and you're forced to go all the way back to your image library and start again).

Likelihood to Recommend

ONTRAPORT is very powerful, and accordingly pricey. I'd recommend it if you have a business model based on acquiring leads and emailing or otherwise contacting them regularly--if that kind of marketing/management is integral to your business, ONTRAPORT is definitely worth your money.

Full featured, but intimidating and needs more polish

Rating: 6 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Marketing automation, sales workflows, providing customers with education about our services, automatically keeping up with clients, tracking goals/tasks, managing a sales funnel.

Pros

  • Campaign builder. The visual campaign builder is very easy to use and feels pretty modern.
  • CRM: customizing what type of data I'd like WHERE has been great. Custom fields, being able to move them around.
  • Task Management: one of the things that set ONTRAPORT apart from other similar automation platforms is the tasks. You can trigger automated tasks that cause your salespeople to take action, and the tasks stay in the queue until the salesperson takes that action and checks it off. This is great for putting together a web of accountability.

Cons

  • Integrations. Basically, all integrations are done using Zapier. This is a huge time suck. In other programs like ActiveCampaign, you have WordPress plugins to import your data from Gravity Forms. It takes 2 minutes to set up. With Zapier, even a simple integration takes a minimum of 30 minutes to setup and test to the point where you trust it.
  • Documentation: there is a lot of documentation, but a lot of it is confusing with not enough examples to make something clear.
  • Templates: other programs like Drip focus on more templates for campaigns. While there are a few here, there's really not a ton and they don't seem carefully curated.
  • Learning curve: it took a really long time to get it set up for our business. I appreciated the onboarding sessions, which definitely helped a lot, but it could have been simpler.
  • Version 5: last year ONTRAPORT launched their newest version of their software. I can see that it's a foundation that they will be able to build a lot on, but it's not fleshed out yet. Like a fresh foundation and a good building, but not a lot of paint or polish yet.
  • Sales funnels: managing people through a sales funnel just happens through a custom field that you set up. There's no predetermined "section" for something that a lot of sales teams would want. It makes it easy to not know what's going to happen with your automation when you send someone to a new part of the sales funnel (ie. you move someone to the next part of the sales funnel, it triggers an automation, maybe you weren't aware of that). It would be great if it gave you a quick summary of some of the automation you're about to send when you take actions.
  • Intimidation: enough said. It just feels intimidating to set this stuff up. This may be true for all the other automation programs too though.

Likelihood to Recommend

ONTRAPORT is great if you have a scalable team, and want to keep people accountable for their tasks.

It's not so great for agile development. Things can feel like they happen a bit too slow, and it's scary to test out small ideas. I realize this is rather subjective.

Ontraport is the best all in one solution I have found

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

All my contact database is stored in Ontraport. The combination of landing pages, lead magnet delivery, nurture sequences and autoresponders plus advanced contact tagging means that I don't need anything else. I am still learning how to get the most out of this but I can see however advanced of a funnel you want to build, it can be built here. For lead gen and e commerce I fully intend to stick around and just get better at this product. Less confusing that 'confusionsoft' more advanced than mailchimp, less intimidating than sendgrid etc. I love it.

Pros

  • Create a lead gen funnel from lead magnets, landing page, email sequence quickly and as custom as you want
  • Landing page builder really works, good combination of fast and easy plus customisable

Cons

  • There is heaps of training material and a lot of articles but perhaps some more video step by steps would be good.
  • Overall it's great not much to change!

Likelihood to Recommend

If you are a consultant or service business looking for a sales funnel system and contact database this will suit you. If you are into online sales and e-commerce it will work well too.
