I have used Paycom to automate most of the manual tasks in the Human Resources department. It has entirely eliminated my need to hire an HR Assistant to handle that bulk workload. It is straightforward to use, and the reporting is easy and accurate. Highly recommend this product. It is a cut above the rest.

Pulling Reports, being able to filter by dates is really important.
It would be good if you held HR focus groups to see how we use the system. Right now, it is set up more like how an IT person would use the system.
Staff continuity, Paycom seems to have a lot of turnover.

I think it does a really good job in the payroll processing. There are a few more nuanced payroll items that would be great to have. Like a net pay calculator. This would save a lot of time. More avenues for learning the system would be appreciated; some of the classes are hard to follow or move too quickly. More basic reports with common naming constructions. The ability to pull all reports by specific dates. Better filtering options.

Room for improvement with complex companies. We have a unique set up as we are a holding company and support 35 other entities. It is not the most user friendly when it comes to processing payroll for all of the companies and now having uniformity across the companies. We use it as a total payroll solution as well as an HRIS system and time and attendance tracking.

Pros

So the payroll area is very advanced and has enabled us to automate a lot of our functionality and that's run very well. We also use Paycom for all our employees' onboarding as well as eVerify and background checks. And then we also use it for time and attendance and other areas that work really well.

Cons

One area that they could improve in is the way that the HRIS is designed. It’s not designed the way an HR person, department, or company thinks. I’ve seen improvements just recently, but I think they could continue to make it more advanced in the interface and some of the features.

It’s very well suited for companies that have multiple locations and multiple types of employees. We use it in both states, and the mobile app works really well. I think that any company, from small to large, like zero to 10,000, probably works really well with it.

I do all the onboarding and offboarding. I also do recruiting and some issues. We’ve recently just started the ATS, so obviously, there are going to be some issues that arise, but we haven’t run into anything that has halted our experience from using it, and we really do love it.

Pros

The ATS, I love that you can just email candidates right through the system and I don’t have to send it from my Outlook email. I also love that once we hire a candidate, we can also just send them straight to background check into onboarding. So it’s very automated.

Cons

I would say sometimes two parts of the systems don’t speak to each other as well. If I need to update a supervisor, I’ll have to update it in two places, one being the position seat and then the other being the actual employee profile.

I would say the recruiting system. I’ve used many recruiting software and I definitely think Paycom is one of the best. A scenario where it’s not, we have to run background checks that get notifications if someone was arrested today, and you guys don’t have that capability, so I guess that we have to use a different background check company for that.

Paycom is our main HRIS system. So we use it for onboarding. We use it for bringing candidates in. We use it for payroll, performance management, mostly all of the modules it offers. There are a couple that we don’t, but it’s used every day.

Pros

Once we onboard somebody, they have a great system to keep all items intact for employees. Payroll works very well through them and the i-9ing system is easy for me. E-Verify. Those are kind of the systems that are the easiest using Paycom.

Cons

A big improvement, for us, is we are currently looking for a new recruiting side of Paycom. So we’re looking for a system that can do a little bit better. So that’s where I feel like they could improve.

Payroll. My payroll process is very seamless. Able to submit the checks. I don’t have to… I do a lot of manual work on the side of things that are outside of their normal pay, but for the most part, they’re very good at getting everybody paid on time, which keeps my employees happy.

HRIS and payroll systems are pretty common and there are legacy players who have a lot of customers. The difference that we've found with Paycom is that Paycom was built online, fully integrated, and they've been very careful about what they add to the product so that it continues to be seamless, and it doesn't get pieced in and puzzled in the way some other products work. That for us is hugely significant because whenever we want data, we know where to go, and it's readily available quickly because it's native in that system.

Pros

Data and access to data are very important in an HRIS and payroll system. Access to that through reporting tools and very easy reporting tools is one of the top benefits of Paycom. The other benefit is that every time they make enhancements to the software, it's always with a larger view of how it will impact the other parts of the software. And so the software, instead of just getting new benefits that you go, “Well, how did that come about and why did they add it?” every one of the benefits that I see added to Paycom and the evolution of the software is with a cohesive product in mind.

Cons

The one area that I think I would make recommendations to change is in performance management. I believe that the already built-in formats for 360-degree reviews and for standard performance management reviews could use a bit more flexibility of customization. For example, the number of raters, how the calculations are made in terms of the metrics, and the final scores of those reviews are all elements that are programmed by Paycom. If we wish to pursue a slightly different model, we are restricted to those changes that Paycom has anticipated and not locked out. If there was a little more adaptability built into this module, I think it would be an improvement.

Likelihood to Recommend

I think it's a flexible product and it's appropriate for smallish companies, and it's also very appropriate for large companies. We're a middle-market company, and yet we're able to use every one of the modules. Certainly, a larger company might have more of a team working with them, but we're able to use everything—succession planning, performance management, talent management, everything, and time and attendance. All of the modules are useful for companies both in the smaller sector, the mid-market, and I believe large companies as well.

We like to use this for our basic HRIS system. One of the main things that I enjoy about Paycom is the communication options that it has, that you can send out mass communication through messages, through text messages, or just email blasts to the employees, which is very helpful in communicating.

Pros

So that would definitely be one of them, what I just mentioned, the communication side of it. The mass communication to the employees, the ease of that is very helpful and makes it easy. Also, just being able to use the new update they just pushed out makes the homepage a lot easier and more user-friendly in a sense.

Cons

One thing that we did come across recently is we were restructuring our organization chart and we did find that in order to update someone's job title, for example, we had to go into two different places, not just the employees page. We had to go into a different function as well and it took up a lot of time.

It is our full HRIS system . We really like the new dashboard. We still want it to track points for us on an anniversary date. We track time and attendance. All the vacation time, the payroll runs through there. All of our new hire onboarding and everything goes through there. Performance reviews we do there several times a year, actually.

I think they offer a good variety of services. So I think anything you're looking for, they probably have that option. There are other things that we could get that we don't have that we might look at down the road, but I think that the customer service and support is really good. I think that the extra things they do for their customers are really cool. And I definitely think that the product service is pretty wide and varied. I also like that it's all in one, so it’s built ground up, so there’s not a lot of… you kind of get in that system, it’s just built in that one thing, which I really liked, which was one of the reasons we went with Paycom.

Data and access to data are very important in an HRIS and payroll system. Access to that through reporting tools and very easy reporting tools is one of the top benefits of Paycom. The other benefit is that every time they make enhancements to the software, it's always with a larger view of how it will impact the other parts of the software. And so the software, instead of just getting new benefits that you go, “Well, how did that come about and why did they add it?” every one of the benefits that I see added to Paycom and the evolution of the software is with a cohesive product in mind.

Cons

The one area that I think I would make recommendations to change is in performance management. I believe that the already built-in formats for 360-degree reviews and for standard performance management reviews could use a bit more flexibility of customization. For example, the number of raters, how the calculations are made in terms of the metrics, and the final scores of those reviews are all elements that are programmed by Paycom. If we wish to pursue a slightly different model, we are restricted to those changes that Paycom has anticipated and not locked out. If there was a little more adaptability built into this module, I think it would be an improvement.
