Who Buys & Uses Sage Accounting

Pros

  • Comprehensive financial reporting and customizable statements
  • User-friendly interface and navigation for daily accounting tasks
  • Efficient creation, sending, and tracking of client invoices

Cons

  • Frequent bank connectivity issues, particularly with reconciliation
  • Inflexible and poorly formatted reporting with limited customization options
  • Slow system performance and occasional software crashes

SAGE Accounting 50 is a older application that does the job but too old for todays environment.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Sage 50 as our main accounting and manufacturing system. The system is based on PeachTree, and the interface is very old and neither efficient nor well-designed. The version that we have is a server solution instead of a web-based application. It is very manual-intensive and requires a person to know the system very well to be proficient with the application. A new version is desperately needed to help users complete their tasks more efficiently and eliminate potential errors.

Pros

  • Reporting. It does provide good reporting.
  • Managing users is fairly easy.
  • All of the important fields are included. But since it is an older system, it is not configured to be very flexible.

Cons

  • Make it customizable and flexible with all of the fields available within the database.
  • In the quoting phase, you should be able to include the vendor's quote to manage the margins, and when the order is placed, the PO could also be placed (to be also drop-shipped) or shipped to the business address.
  • Be able to link to other CRM systems (like Salesforce) or WooCommerce to capture web sales automatically or even to have an Authorize.net capability (payment system).
  • Be able to change addresses easily for multiple customer facility addresses.
  • Be able to create OPEN PO's so you could have multiple delivery dates.
  • Reminders to order parts when you reach your Min/Max.
  • Ability to have multiple vendors with different quotes / prices available.
  • Ability to link SAGE 50 to vendor or customer ERP systems.
  • Make the process to create quotes to sales orders to invoicing easier and faster.

Return on Investment

  • We used Peachtree Desktop (perpetual) until it was discontinued, which forced us to switch to Sage 50.
  • The license agreement (yearly) is very costly for an older system, but I guess I don't have a choice.
  • I don't believe there is any ROI to this system, but it was the most cost-effective system to migrate to since PeachTree wasn't supported and was having issues.

SAGE 50 is still my preferred accounting software

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use various accounting softwares in our organization and I am the most comfortable and satisfied with SAGE50. It addresses all of our various business needs for all clients who we use this product for whether it is for payroll or simply just a sole prop. The bank balancing feature is quite efficient as well as the payroll tax filing feature. I do not use all of the features, personally. I feel as though a lot of them are overkill and unnecessary and would take longer to use than manual entries for a lot of things, but there are some I have tried, like the automated bank rec feature, that, although it took a bit to get used to, it seemed functional. I have only used it for one or two clients. I have not really felt the need to start using it for any more clients as the setup does take a bit longer and this is not something the client necessarily wants us to spend time on which equals money out of their pockets. Overall, still my go-to accounting software.

Pros

  • Bank reconciliations are functional and easy to use
  • The payroll tax remittance feature works well and is convenient
  • There are many options for reports which is good for simple or complex clients

Cons

  • Updates typically don't seem to be needed so much and changing the format is also hard to get used to and time consuming when the product was already functional
  • When doing a payroll cheque run, it is quite frustrating that it makes you start over just because you change the date. This should not happen and if you don't notice until you are done, it is a waste of time to have to start over when all you needed to do was change the date(s)
  • If there is a semi-monthly non standard payroll, the system automatically changes the dates to what it thinks it should be creating the same issue as the point just prior to this.
  • Not being able to assign a project to vacation pay. We have a client who needs that and so we had to create a separate line item to move the amount off the cheque to be able to assign a project. A bit of a time-waster.
  • It would be nice if we could enter a net amount for payroll and have the system back out the taxes, accordingly, like you can with Quickbooks Desktop.

Return on Investment

  • I think it has been good for our business objectives, overall.
  • The cost of the program is quite high and it is sometimes difficult to pass this cost on to the client.
  • I think our team has grown, especially the ones who were not as familiar with the software and/or found it hard to navigate.

Sage Accounting

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I work for a manufacturing company that produces metal parts based on customer prints, and Sage Accounting is essential to our daily operations. I use the software to enter customer orders, manage billing, and process payments. It also allows me to efficiently handle vendor bills and payments while keeping our banking reconciled. Additionally, the platform offers a wide variety of reports that we utilize frequently to keep our finances in order.

Pros

  • Reports
  • Invoice search.
  • Bank Details.
  • Keeps over 10 years of information.

Cons

  • Some reports don't give access to information needed.
  • Crashing when the report is too long.
  • Reports limiting the years that can be viewed.
  • The system will think too long then crash at random times.

Return on Investment

  • The business does 100 percent better with use of the system.
  • Invoicing and receiving payments is easy.
  • Bank Balance is easily reconciled every month.

Usability

Sage Accounting ERP.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Mainly use this for accounting. Keeps track of transactions that make up our GL. From inventory and purchase orders to bank reconciliation.

Pros

  • Customizable
  • Keeps departments separate.
  • GAAP

Cons

  • Inventory tracking and physical counts.
  • Anything mobile.
  • POS functionality.
  • UOM customizations, for example, metal lengths. I have to create a part for 9ft, 10ft, 12ft, 16ft, 18ft, etc. I'd like one part and then define the lengths sold and purchased.

Return on Investment

  • It is just an expensive piece of software.
  • I need to get more licenses, but it's not worth the increase in monthly payment.
  • The best thing about Sage is the customizability. Custom reporting, custom screens, etc.
