Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it as a tool to keep inventory of wich ip is used and what is still available, ofr an example when we need to roll out a new virtual machine or netwerk device it needs an ip. And with out much effort we can lookup the ip range/subnet that the device needs to be in and see which ip's are still free.

Pros

  • IP ranges
  • subnet ranges
  • keep inventory
  • show wich are free and which are used

Cons

  • Maybe the GUI
  • overview
  • nothing that can come to mind

Likelihood to Recommend

For organisations with a big infrastructure and who already use SolarWinds, its a solid addition, cause you have a platform that has already a lot information in it. Now with even more, so you dont have to search far to get the information that you need. And it gives you a better workflow.

SolarWinds IP Address Manager IPAM is a Cost Effective Inventory Tracking Application

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM) to help track IP addresses that are in use in our network. It helps us to inventory devices. It also helps to troubleshoot any networking issues that might be related to IP addresses such as DHCP issues, duplicate use of IP addresses, and other related issues. SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM) also helps us in rolling out new devices on our network.

Pros

  • DHCP address pool tracking
  • Tracking of static IP address
  • Inventorying of network devices

Cons

  • I would love for SolarWinds IP Address Manager to be cloud based
  • It's not a standalone product. It is a part of the Orion platform of applications
  • Pricing is not a major issue, but with anything, better pricing is great

Likelihood to Recommend

SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM) works very well for any need you would have that involves tracking IP addresses. This can be a very good part of your plan for tracking devices as part of your device inventory process. It helps to eliminate the manual tracking of IP addresses through things like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets spreadsheets.

SolarWinds IPAM works great as a part of your normal monitoring solution.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have multiple super nets that have many subnets within them. We needed a way to just keep tabs on available IPs, so when a customer came asking for one, we didn't have to guess or begin looking at ARP tables to find an available IP. It also allowed for documenting the intermission time where another Network Engineer gave an IP, but that device wasn't installed (so it wouldn't be in the ARP table yet) - saving us from the headache of duplicate IPs.

Pros

  • IP Management.
  • Simple
  • Straightforward.
  • IP Conflict Alerting.

Cons

  • Hostname identification is hit or miss.
  • Lack of integration with the rest of the SW (i.e., if I have a monitored device at 10.1.1.1 - IPAM should have the option to pull that data automatically into IPAM).
  • Struggles with the same thing all monitoring tools struggle with - team buy-in (if not everyone uses it, it's unreliable). Some automated/easier-to-use capabilities may help bridge that gap.

Likelihood to Recommend

This tool does what it needs to very well. As previously stated, it is a tool the entire team needs to buy into. One person not using it will make it an unreliable source of truth. What makes it also very desirable for our team was that it's a part of the normal SolarWinds monitoring tool, so the IT team didn't need to build out and manage a separate software just to fulfill our IPAM functionalities.

Great tool for keeping track of IP addresses

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SolarWinds IP Address Manager Eliminates IP conflicts and saves time managing DHCP, DNS, and IP Addresses. It also scans subnets to show the open IP address, and adds and removes subnets. The disadvantage is the ability to select multiple IP addresses at one time and it some it overkills for smaller network and little high price.

Pros

  • Great tool for keeping track of IP addresses.
  • Dynamic IP lists and documentation.
  • Nice integration with other SolarWinds suite tool.

Cons

  • Try to integrate with service now
  • It showed the MAC addresses of the devices it finds on the scans.
  • Specific IP can be complicated

Likelihood to Recommend

It is easy to use, and I recommend to try in any organization. It can manage so many groups of networks. One of the great features I like is it keeps a history of what it was used for x number of days, Gui based interface, and manage my DHCP and DNS from the same console.

No gimmicks, it just works!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use SolarWinds IPAM to keep a watchful eye over my DHCP scopes and IP ranges. It helps me manage my IP address schemes so that I have the ability to focus on other areas. Without this tool, I would have to validate via manual methods.

Pros

  • Automates IP address tracking
  • IP address alerting, troubleshooting, and reporting
  • DHCP Management
  • IP address management

Cons

  • N/A

Likelihood to Recommend

I can't live without SolarWinds IPAM. No matter your environment size, you can benefit from proper IP address management. SolarWinds makes it easy to manage with its intuitive interface and scheduled scans.

An IPAM that does what it's supposed to.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It does it's job well, it's easy to use it to see what IP's are available and can be assigned. The scans work as expected, subnets are easy to add and remove. It's not flashy but I find it does exactly what we want it to do.

Pros

  • Scan subnets to show open IP address
  • Add and remove subnets
  • Add/track DNS and DHCP servers

Cons

  • The ability to select multiple IP address at one time and clear their settings

Likelihood to Recommend

We aren't using it to it's fully potential, but for what we use it for it works great. All subnets are scanned and updated; if you are reserving an IP, you have to make sure the scan doesn't wipe it out (easy to do, just need to remember it). It has been simple to use and has made my job easier. It would not work as well if you don't have access to scan those subnets.

Best IP Management Software

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The university I work at has at least 26 DHCP servers each managing multiple scopes, and it can get messy fast. SolarWinds IP Address Manager is an awesome tool to monitor the IP networks at a high level from one dashboard. I can easily determine DHCP utilization within each location and subnet with a glance at SolarWinds IP Address Manager.

Pros

  • IP address monitoring
  • IP address alerting for duplicates
  • DHCP Management lets me know when how scopes are being used
  • Sunbet Management lets me know when I need to look at increasing my subnet space

Cons

  • DHCP utilization sometimes has a delay before being in sync but is still accurate enough at all times for a broad understanding of the environment

Likelihood to Recommend

SolarWinds IP Address Manager is very useful the bigger and more complex the environment. Smaller organizations will have to consider the cost as it provides little benefit over monitoring maybe 2-3 servers. But I have over 24 DHCP servers with on average 15 subnets each so tracking and monitoring all that was very time-consuming. As a result, it was generally ignored until there was an issue. With SolarWinds IP Address Manager, I was able to set alerts to monitor scope utilization and duplicate IP addresses.

IPAM is a fully functional IP address manager

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use IPAM to track subnet and host IP address assignments for our entire network. Primarily used for static IP assignments in our data centers and as a way to track dynamically assigned addresses from our DHCP infrastructure. This allows us to avoid assigning a duplicate IP addresses to static devices. The user interface is very intuitive and the color-coded icons allow us to quickly look down the list to see what addresses are being used and unused. Solarwinds also added a nice feature to test to see if the IP address is active elsewhere before reserving it. the search engine allows us to quickly focus on IP addresses at the subnet or host level.

Pros

  • Ease of use to assign/register IP addresses.
  • Easy search utility.
  • Intuitive.
  • Integration with Solarwinds Orion.

Cons

  • I do not see any holes in the product.
  • Ability to customize the user interface for management.
  • Ability to generate management graphical reports on IP status.
  • The ability to delegate user access to specific subnet or ranges.

Likelihood to Recommend

An easy-to-use IP address manager that is integrated with Orion. This is a fully-featured application that is supported by the vendor's knowledgeable support staff. The graphical interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. We access the IPAM application throughout our network with a secure web connection and leverage the AD user account integration to lower our administrative overhead of the product.
