Business Problems Solved
Pingdom is a versatile tool that users rely on to monitor the uptime of their websites and ensure they are up and operational. With Pingdom's notifications via Mobile, Email, and Slack Integration, users can quickly resolve any downtime issues and avoid potential revenue loss. The tool is widely used by multiple departments within organizations for front-line monitoring of core public-facing services, allowing them to be proactive and react as soon as they receive a notification of downtime, preventing further issues. Additionally, Pingdom is used for uptime monitoring and verification of responses from specific endpoints, which assists in diagnosing issues. Its ability to support different monitoring types makes it a preferred choice for many users.
Furthermore, Pingdom serves as an uptime monitor for cloud applications, providing direct notifications and general uptime statistics. Users rely on Pingdom to monitor URL/endpoints and website uptime, ensuring optimal performance. It also helps in managing preventive failures and troubleshooting during scheduled maintenances. Additionally, Pingdom allows for the addition of notification-only users, facilitating collaboration with other teams. As a service provider, Pingdom is a primary tool for monitoring uptime for clients. Users appreciate its simplicity and ease of setup and maintenance. Integration with OpsGenie allows for quick resolution of alerts and efficient management of downtime. Overall, Pingdom is a helpful tool for monitoring and testing websites, analyzing page speed, overall performance, compliance with SLAs, and providing reliable customer service.
In my experience SolarWinds Pingdom SAAS is used to monitor externally reachable URL for availability and performance with Real User Monitoring (RUM) transactional monitoring. It has been in use for more than 2 years.
Pros
Very Inexpensive
Easy to use
SSO built in
MFA Built In
Cons
ZERO Product Updates since October 2021
Last SOC 2 certification April 2022 had several key findings identifying management and operational failures
Support is HORRENDOUS. No responses for weeks at a time.
No reported changes or outages in the last year
Likelihood to Recommend
I was speaking directly with the global service owner for Pingdom. She committed directly to me that she would get several reports to me "by the end of the week". Its now 2 weeks later and she won't respond to any email, even with an estimate of when she might be able to respond. In my opinion, this is indicative of SOlarWinds support in general. We have several other products deployed and we cant get them to commit 24 hours in advance to particiapte in support or troubleshooting calls and we purchase their highest level of support.
Pingdom offers us another layer of monitoring for our core applications and increases peace of mind for our executive team. We have several layers of monitoring with alerts driven from AWS for the infrastructure team, but a simple ping to the sites and instant alerts to the executive team gives them peace of mind that our apps are up and responding.
We also publish our pingdom summaries to our clients to prove that we hit contractual uptime obligations.
Pros
Fast alerting of outages
Good summaries of monthly uptime achieved
Easy to use dashboard
Cons
N/A
Likelihood to Recommend
Well suited to monitor uptime SLA's and provide instant notification of application outages.
Our organization has used Pingdom as an external monitoring provider for our data centers and networks for about 13 years now. We choose Pingdom because of it's reliability and features. In the 13 years we've had Pingdom, there have been very little false positives. Feature wise, it's nice to have "Root Cause" presented when a failure occurs - this surprisingly sets Pingdom apart from their other competitors which simply tell you if something is up or down. Traceroutes provided are useful to trace down potential issues.
Pros
Root Cause Analysis
Reliability
Traceroutes
Historical Data
Cons
Slow Web Interface
iOS App Lacking Functionality
Likelihood to Recommend
Pingdom's Root Cause Analysis, the ability to monitor from multiple locations, and it's reliability are it's main draw, otherwise there are other competitors that are much cheaper but still get the job done. As said above, we use this monitoring system to essentially monitor our core systems and networks which include their monitoring systems. This also allows us to ensure we have good connectivity between multiple Pingdom nodes - which makes the cost worth it to us.

We use Pingdom to solve a few problems from uptime monitoring to verification of responses from specific endpoints. As well, we have used it to ensure that our partner's services are up and present as well. This helps us when we are trying to diagnose issues. Their ability to support different monitoring types helped us choose the product.
Pros
UI
Dashboard Information Summary
Notifications
API Access
Cons
Breakout of service options.
Likelihood to Recommend
The level of program that we use lends itself well to services and products that have many URL endpoints that you want to monitor response times, presence, and content of. I don't remember if they have small enough offerings for front pages with only one or two urls that you'd want to monitor. If you service customers globally, Pingdom having multiple POPs is definitely helpful. The multiple POPs also helps remove notification fatigue when your services are only inaccessible from a single location.
Its our last frontier of monitoring. When things go bad we depend on using it for monitoring our public endpoints and to understand if something bad really happened. We have internal monitoring, but Pingdom has proven itself to be our fallback, and main public endpoint monitoring. We have integrated it with our Status pages, our on-call and it is one stop solution for our needs on the edge of our platform.
Pros
Multi endpoint monitoring
Latency monitoring
Tagging of alerts
Cons
Customized payload alerts for statuses different than 200
Grouping of alerts
Organisation support
Likelihood to Recommend
Pingdom has been one of our critical components for the past 5 years. When things go bad I depend on Pingdom to be our last frontier of our monitoring solution.Having in mind the time we have used the product I am amazed that we had only 1 false-positive alert for that period. Its strong, well positioned production that I will continue to recommend to every company I work for.
I would love to see more functionalities added to the external monitoring toolset of Pingdom, like direct integrations with the known softwares out there.
I use it to test the uptime of our websites, we have internal testing of the sites, but we wanted a 3rd party out of the infrastructure that would just tell us that it is fully reachable. Pingdom provided this with an easy to use system, it also let us know if we were having high latency.
Pros
Clean
Simple
Effective
Reliable
Cons
Smaller increments of additional features
Likelihood to Recommend
It is great for simple website uptime, and making sure that there isn't unexpected outages or slow-downs. I wouldn't use it for more complex scenarios such as API testing, although that is an area that may have been improved since I last looked at it. Very easy to use interface and can be set up in mins.

Pingdom is mainly an uptime monitor for several cloud applications. Both direct notifications and general uptime statistics are important to us.
Pros
Uptime notifications
Uptime statistics
Great starter price
Cons
There used to be an app but now you need to use the web login which works fine, but an app is nicer if there is an uptime problem and you're in a rush
Likelihood to Recommend
Pingdom has been working well for years now and the starter package is fine for small applications. I would love to see the app brought back but it works okay without it too.
We at Hevo use Pingdom primarily for URL/endpoints and website uptime monitoring and alert tool. Also, each product team can set up monitoring of their internet-facing product on Pingdom.
Pros
URL/endpoints and website monitoring from different parts of the world
Uptime reporting
DNS uptime and alerting
Website speed test
Cons
Dashboard is a bit slow
The test reports download for a specific date range should be allowed
Likelihood to Recommend
Awesome and reliable tool for website uptime monitoring and alert tool with great reporting insight
We leverage Pingdom to track system uptime across applications. We have been using it for over 8 years and it has been stable, reliable, and consistent for that purpose. We integrate with messaging apps and alerting apps, and have had no major issues. We use the tool to generate monthly reports that are shared organization-wide.
Pros
Track uptime
Proactive alerting
Alerting integrations
Cons
No current missing features
Likelihood to Recommend
It delivers on the features it includes and does so consistently.

SolarWinds Pingdom was our core uptime monitoring and SLA management tool, as well as providing the alarms whenever there was a service downtime. At the time we implemented Pingdom we ran a SaaS product with multiple services and having a tool like Pingdom was critical to our service levels, especially the alarms. As the organisation matured we attracted using Pingdom for our uptime monitoring (a closely watched performance KPI) as well as for SLA management with our clients, Pingdom providing the metrics for contract management. We have since moved away from SaaS to a different business model, supported on a different platform, so we discontinued Pingdom usage, however, should the need for such a tool ever arise again I would seriously consider going back.
Pros
Downtime Alarms through multiple channels to multiple team members
Uptime monitoring, with easy to understand metrics (for C-Level analysis)
SLA reports
Cons
I was not a direct user of the tool, but as a decision maker I didn't receive any negative feedback from the team.
Likelihood to Recommend
I believe the scenarios we used it for were quite well covered, from the executive perspective. The downtime alarms worked very well and were easy to setup, uptime monitoring tools were clear and easy to use, even for non-technical people (C-level) and the SLA management tools allowed us to spend less time, and have less friction, with our clients
