  • Hardware is fast.
  • Software is very user friendly.
  • Integration with the rest of the Square ecosystem is excellent.

  • Self checkout options would be great.
  • Integration with digital weight scales.
  • QR code payments.

Likelihood to Recommend

After trying several other solutions, there are no other options that offer such a comprehensive suite of billing and in store payment tools than Square. The front end tools are well thought out and easy to use while the back end tools are made so that owners can completely tailor them to the specific needs of their business.

Square POS a solid and suitable choice

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Square POS is our Retail POS and also our payment processor, e-commerce website, inventory tracking system, payroll provider, and more.

Pros

  • Fast processing for customers at checkout.
  • Reporting and other back-end capabilities.
  • Continuing to develop with new technology and features.

Cons

  • Create more options to edit data fields in bulk in the item library.
  • Continue building out more features and functionality on the Online Store.
  • Further integration with third-party providers.

Likelihood to Recommend

Ultimately I give Square POS a high rating, because even where there may be some deficiencies, they are continually to improve upon them... But I think they also could do a better job of making these new features known when they roll out new releases.

Square POS - well rounded POS

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Square POS is used by us to track sales and run transactions from a food truck. It is helpful for reporting sales and tracking the quantity and dollar amount of products sold. The simplicity of using it and using the most widely recognized POS is a huge plus for our customers. It inspires great brand recognition and trust.

Pros

  • Ease of use
  • works offline
  • customization
  • ticket printing
  • tipping

Cons

  • reporting could be simplier
  • there are other options with smaller fees
  • it is time consuming to select dates for custom reports

Likelihood to Recommend

Square POS is simple and easy to use. It works well for our food truck. It does not work as well with the offline mode, but that is a nice feature for when internet/cell service is not available or plentiful. The offline mode does allow us to accept payments when cellular service is low due to large crowds.

Easy to Use

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Square POS is used when we are taking orders from someone directly, in person. It solves the problem of needing a payment system to accept credit cards and debit cards. It helps us to easily sell our items, quickly accept payment, manage what we've sold in the database, and transfer money to our accounts.

Pros

  • Quickly and easily accepts the common payment type of debit or credit
  • Lightweight and mobile
  • Manage sales in the database

Cons

  • Sometimes the piece that the card goes into has trouble, and it has to be done multiple times
  • It's sometimes awkward flipping the screen you're using around to ask the customer if they'd like to tip
  • The white card accepter gets dirty from so many people using it, maybe different color options

Likelihood to Recommend

Square POS is most well suited when you will be in one spot - aka a store or a semi-permanent vendor spot - as opposed to when you are on the go or at a one-time event (for this, the piece that plugs into your phone is best suited). It's good for places with high traffic or not a lot of traffic.

Square POS is worth the hype

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use square to sell tickets to our events on-site at the venue.

Pros

  • Instills confidence from the buyer
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to train others to use
  • Real-time updates on tickets sold and revenue made

Cons

  • The swipe functionality worked more often than the chip card functionality
  • It would be nice if buys could just sign-in to their Square account to purchase with pre-saved data

Likelihood to Recommend

Square POS is by far the easiest POS software to use at events and train additional team members on - even with temporary or first-time employees. It's easy to see how each event is doing in live time. It gives the event manager a real-time view of revenue earned. Its really easy to create/manage/delete users to keep the platform secure.

Best platform for processing payments!

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were looking for a good credit card processing system to use for our clients that did not have a big monthly overhead cost. Finding and using Square POS was such a blessing to our company and helps us make sure we receive all of our payments on time. Such a good investment!

Pros

  • Low fees.
  • Easy to use.
  • Reliability.

Cons

  • Less fees.
  • Better communication.
  • More tutorial videos.

Likelihood to Recommend

This is the best platform to use for credit card processing. We have used another company and this is a fraction of the cost. This was such a good decision for our company to switch to Square POS. We do wish the fees were a bit lower. They should offer less fees to companies that have used them for multiple years.

I use Square POS in my business mostly at local events to take and process payments for products and services that I am selling to customers who attend the events. Perfect compact portable POS

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Square in two businesses. In my full time job, we use the card reader that attaches to your mobile phone for selling books at our dinner seminars and other events. For my part time work I purchased a card reader that sits on my desk. I use them both for keeping track of inventory and retail sales.

Pros

  • Their devices are compact and easily moved from one place to another.
  • It is simple to use. The learning curve is small.
  • It is perfect for a small business as their is no up front cost with the free chip card reader.
  • You can enter all of your inventory into the app on your phone. Also accessible on a desktop.

Cons

  • When we first used it we had some issues with the phone attached card reader not reading the cards so we had to manually input the card numbers.
  • We had some technical difficulties with connection in the beginning with the phone attached reader but we only had that issue the one time.
  • Phone support at the time the above happened was not available.

Likelihood to Recommend

I would say if you are selling alot of items then invest in one of the POS readers above the free one. I just find that when I use the phone one, it can be a pain with not connecting properly so swiping or using it for more than a few sales I think would really be a pain. Now that I say that, I just got a Samsung S21 Ultra. They do not have an aux port so I can't use the phone one at all now. I haven't used it in a while as I use the 'Square Reader for contactless and chip and PIN'.
