IBM Turbonomic Review

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

IBM Turbonomic is basically an ARM automation tool to monitor if the purchased resources are overprovisioning or underutilized and to monitor cost across hybrid and multi cloud environments.

Our organization is moving from a centralized network to de centralized zones and each zones have there own cloud service providers and few on Hybrid as well. Using the IBM Turbonomic tool we monitor and optimize the performance of cloud devices and monitor the cost as the AI tool automatically allocates/Deallocates the resources

Pros

  • Cost optimization
  • Application performance as resources is allocated depending upon the demand/Traffic
  • Real time monitoring to improve operational efficiency.

Cons

  • Initial Set up and configuration
  • License cost
  • Does not integrate well with other monitoring tools

Likelihood to Recommend

IBM Turbonomic is well suited for organizations which has deployed multiple resources under different cloud infrastructures as the AI functionality automatically scales up/Down the resources and keeps the cost to minimum.

All the Public Cloud providers can be managed under a single umbrella to reduce cost and overutilization of resources.

IBM Turbonomic and Its Functionality

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Pros

  • Automatically adjusts compute, storage, and network resources to maintain application performance without manual intervention or guesswork.
  • Continuously identifies and eliminates overprovisioned resources, helping reduce cloud and data center costs across hybrid environments.
  • Integrates with Kubernetes, VMware, and public clouds to deliver real-time, policy-driven automation for dynamic workloads.

Cons

  • Reporting customization is somewhat rigid, making it harder to tailor dashboards to specific business KPIs or stakeholder needs.
  • The user interface, while functional, feels dated and can be unintuitive for new users navigating complex resource relationships.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Turbonomic in our Power environment for AIOPS and balancing our SAP workloads. It provides recommendations for workload placement in order to optimise our compute, storage and network resources. It gives us real time monitoring and maps relationships amount applications and resources. We use it to automatically scale during peak times and maintain our performance requirements.

Pros

  • Full stack visibility
  • Performance assurance at scale
  • Automation

Cons

  • Lack of 3rd party Integrations
  • High costs can be tough for organisations with small budgets
  • The learning curve can be very steep

Likelihood to Recommend

It’s very useful for observability without the need to have many monitoring tools.

Application Resource Optimization

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

IBM Turbonomic helps optimize cloud resources both performance and savings issues (increase or decrease resources like CPU, memory or even changing cloud families ) across cloud environments. Our SRE today have only to review generated actions with the application owners to apply or modify IBM Turbonomic policies so next actions be more accurate. Integrating with Service now its a plus since we can track down all actions with correct workflows.

Pros

  • Cloud Optimization
  • On-premise Optimization
  • Kubernetes Optimization
  • Automatic Actions
  • IBM portfolio integration

Cons

  • more clouds support like Oracle OCI
  • Multi-currency support
  • Use "on-the-fly" kubernetes CPU and mem change (beta on kubernetes)

Likelihood to Recommend

Cloud with large usage of VM such as AWS EC2, Kubernetes clusters like AKS or EKS, and Databases as a service (ex. AWS RDS). Teams that are involved in Level 2 support also benefit from IBM Turbonomic especially with ITSM platform to support ticket management and customs workflows.

The best of IBM Turbonomic

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use IBM Turbonomic to supervise and analyze the resources consumption of our Kubernetes clusters and cross that information with the information from VMware which is also monitored with IBM Turbonomic.

We have problems with pod's distribution among our worker nodes and this generates downtimes of the nodes and saturation on our VMware system.

Pros

  • Recommendations about limits and requests of pods
  • Distribution of pods
  • Capacity plans

Cons

  • Predictive capacity plans
  • Consume a lot of resources after a while
  • Improve the way its show the relations between workloads

Likelihood to Recommend

IBM Turbonomic suits better on plans "road to the cloud" because it shows you the savings that you can have with in different ways on this road. But when its for an On premise environment it doesn't show you that kind of savings for your environment. It works perfect but need to improve for On Premise environments

One Place for All My Monitoring Needs

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

IBM Turbonomic lets me keep an eye on both our infrastructure and our apps in one spot, it also lets me keep track of logs, metrics and traces across Backend, Frontend and third-party APIs.

Pros

  • i can track frontend errors down to the exact line and even open them in my IDE
  • it’s easy to correlate spikes across services which speeds up debugging
  • the integrations with Slack, OpsGenie, and cloud providers save me setup time

Cons

  • it’s really expensive
  • configuring dashboards or monitors can feel overwhelming since the platform is too big
  • some things require going deep into documentation

Likelihood to Recommend

IBM Turbonomic is for teams dealing with distributed systems or microservices, because it really shines when you need to centralize monitoring instead of juggling multiple tools, but I’d say that the UI can feel overwhelming at first.
