Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I believe I have been using Vultr for the past eight years, and I have used many different types of applications. The one I used most was hosting WordPress VPSs for my clients, which later became my own hosting company. Then I combined them into a single server. Back in the day, I also used it to host Minecraft servers and to host independent virtual machines running Windows. The largest issue that Vultr solves is whether I want to have a virtual private server anywhere. It's so complicated! For example, before Vultr, I had rented a server from the company. They gave me a two-year contract, and as soon as I started, I was just dreading that I would get a lot of problems with this company. I did get a lot from the company, so much so that I said, "Hey, I'm gonna cancel the contract because you are not giving me what you said you would give." They had better lawyers than I did, and they got money from me that they should not. Vultr is none of that, and Vultr is safe. It's fast, it's reliable, and easy to use. Their support is always there, so yeah, it's an amazing company!

  • SMTP automated verification would be nice.
  • To use third-party systems to access my VPS would be nice if they had their own panel.
  • Server resource analytics would be amazing to have, and this one is a very weak feature.

  • It has a comprehensive range across the planet, so I can spin up a server anywhere near me.
  • ROI-wise, when I first started using Vultr, there was nothing out there with state-of-the-art servers that I could pump every last drop of performance out of.
  • And saving time whenever I want a server, and I've done it so many times for so many different use cases. Sometimes I just need a server for a weekend, and sometimes I need something for a couple of days. I can spin up a massive server, use it, and then I can shut it down, and it's amazing! I'm not entering into contracts, so this is incredible.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using Vultr to spawn nodes for some of our network. We needed a distributed solution that could spawn VMs and destroy them on demand, and be invoiced on the go. Vultr API is easy to use and well-documented for our needs. With Vultr, our projects are in good hands. They offer good services and good support.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Vultr to host various research projects and team infrastructure (websites, databases, etc.) Vultr is highly unique in that they provide BGP speaking capability if you BYO prefix, along with a live real-time view of Vultr's routing table - invaluable if you are doing research on network conditions, want to monitor BGP logs, or fine-tune your own BGP announcements.

Cons

  • better user management. currently creating a user under another person's account requires using an email address that is not registered with Vultr already. It would be nice to have a single account login with separate profiles/UI views when associated with different organizations or groups.

Return on Investment

  • Vultr has enabled many of our research projects because of its ease to use and its BGP features. Thumbs up!
  • Price is lower than most competitors
  • Vultr's user management system has made it a little clunky to keep track of user logins and permissions

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Vultr is used for our support lab setup. Vultr allows us to easily create VMs to test out our products. It gives direct access to a public IP which is a huge bonus when working with SIP. In addition to this Vultrs interface is one of the best I've seen. As I find AWS/Google cloud have a bigger learning curve. The same holds true for pricing, with Vultr I know exactly how much I am paying, but I can't say the same for other providers.

  • More advanced failover options. I should be able to configure a VM to reside within multiple data centers.
