Zerto for disaster recovery

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used Zerto for disaster recovery and it is very easy to use. The fail over process is easy as well as the fail back process. Very busy SQL servers can sometimes will be a difficult to keep in sync, but following Zerto's best practice guide will help with these issues.

Pros

  • Disaster recovery
  • Ransomware protection
  • One to many replication

Cons

  • Tier 1 support is not great
  • Expensive
  • Limitations migrating back from managed disks

Likelihood to Recommend

Zerto well suited as an Azure disaster recovery solution. The off site clone feature is fantastic for point in time backups. Great solution for replicating to the cloud. I would say Zerto is not a great solution for small and medium business as it does take some technical knowledge to manage and is expensive at small scales.

Zerto for disaster recovery and migration use!

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using Zerto for disaster recovery, special in cases where a very low RPO is required. This is mostly from VMware to VMware. This what Zerto can do very well. We also use Zerto for migrations from (mostly) Hyper V to VMware. Zerto can manage as one of the few to do this from Hyper V to VMware whitout to much trouble. A very good part is in this case is also the there is a 'provider' part but also a customer part and the customer can do it's own migrations en (test) fail-overs.

Pros

  • Low RPO
  • Hyper-V VMWare Migrations
  • Customer portal
  • Test fail-over

Cons

  • No refresh button to import new config from VMWare
  • Ghost VRA are not always removable
  • High license costs

Likelihood to Recommend

Zerto is well used in cases where you need a very low RPO and you want you want to be in control just as your customer. The same counts if you want to migrate from platform A to platform B. It's less suited for companies that cannot afford high costs. The license is not cheap, but you can do a lot with Zerto and the support is very good at Zerto.

Working at an MSP, we find Zerto to be a great tool for onboarding new customers and as a disaster recovery solution.

Zerto delivers the goods

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Zerto is one of our primary tools for Disaster Recovery. We tier all of our virtual servers via priority, all of which are prioritized accordingly in Zerto for our backup frequency needs in the event we need to invoke our DR site. The fast connections and replication allow for a large amount of replicated data.

Pros

  • Very good support staff - we never have an issue getting a problem resolved
  • On the easier side of configuration and maintenance
  • Very good Management Interface, maybe one of the best

Cons

  • Can be expensive to scale
  • Licensing could be better for smaller organizations
  • Ability to customize more in the dashboard would be nice

Likelihood to Recommend

[Zerto is a] great tool for backups and aligns well with our DR backup site strategy. It is easy to scale by adding servers, has nice integration with Hyper-V, as well as a nice security feature to scan files for possible ransomware indicators. However, it can be cost-prohibitive for smaller organizations.

Zerto for the Win!

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

High-value virtual servers are replicated from our primary production data center to our secondary fail-over data center. In effect, this represents the core of our disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Other, legacy backup and restore solutions were too slow to restore, and [the] speed of restore is among the most important features for our environment.

Pros

  • Speed of recovery
  • Reduction of RPO
  • Ease of use

Cons

  • Dependence on virtual protection groups
  • Release of updates to align with VMware releases
  • Product documentation could be improved

Likelihood to Recommend

For direct failover between data centers, this product excels. Of course, connectivity between data centers is at a premium and the product doesn't fare well with excessive latency. For metro area failover, it's ideal, for a longer, continental distance, the latency would probably be too much. Also, the rate of data change is key: a very high rate of data change is challenging, even with this product.

Excellent migration tool

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We mainly use Zerto as migration from our customer's on-premises data center (which could be their own or a competitor's data center), but in fewer cases as a DRaaS solution for our customers.

Pros

  • VM migrations with near-zero downtime
  • Easy to deploy, use, and maintain
  • Very fast and robust tool

Cons

  • Zerto is too pricey compared to other solutions
  • Zerto should also include P2V solutions in their platform
  • ZVMs could ship as OVF/OVA appliances instead of installing them on top of Windows Server

Likelihood to Recommend

I've been working with Zerto mainly in new customer migrations from their site to our data centers. For me, this is a much superior tool compared to vSphere Replication/SRM/Carbonite for the purpose it serves because of its low learning curve, fast deployment and configuration, and amazingly-built compression technology. Whenever we're on a tight project schedule, Zerto is our #1 choice. Even though I find it amazing as a DR/backup tool (for instance, having 5-second checkpoints for a virtual machine guarantees any recovery in case of a disaster), it becomes too pricey unless you have a very specific need for such a small RPO.

Senior System Administrator Zerto Guy

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Its real-time replication and worry-free DR solution is the reason we decided to use and retain this product. This makes our annual/quarterly DR tests a breeze and gives peace of mind for any true DR event. I recommend Zerto to any friends/colleagues that could utilize it at their companies.

Pros

  • Real-Time Replication
  • DR Testing
  • Recovery Reporting

Cons

  • Automation
  • File Restore Capability - specifically the ability to restore Windows compressed/encrypted files or folders
  • Increase storage compression/de-dupe

Likelihood to Recommend

[Zerto is the] best real-time replication and DR product on the market. Personally, I would not use it for backup or LTR in a scenario such as ours, since we use VSAN and that storage is very expensive compared to traditional SAN. If you want to make life easier with annual/quarter DR tests then you should 100% purchase Zerto.

5 Star Enterprise Disaster Recovery Product! It just works!

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Zerto for disaster recovery and site replication between our primary and DR datacenters. We are able to recover our virtual servers in near real-time from a failure or disaster event. Zerto helps us meet audit and regulatory needs in the banking industry for backup/recovery of our datacenters.

Pros

  • Site to Site replication
  • Near real-time replication and recovery from point in time
  • Faster RPO & RTOs
  • Easy to use, can restore a virtual machine with a few mouse clicks
  • Easy DR testing

Cons

  • Expensive licensing cost
  • Language barrier depending on which support tech you receive.

Likelihood to Recommend

Zerto is well suited for disaster recovery and virtual machine replication between multiple data centers. DR testing for audit or regulations is much easier with Zerto, great reporting, dashboard etc. It is not well suited for physical server replication for disaster recovery or as a primary backup solution.

Zerto for fast DR recovery

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Zerto for real-time replication of our production Hyper V virtual environment. It is a crucial part of our disaster recovery protection.

Pros

  • Realtime replication
  • Fast recovery
  • Platform to platform conversation of virtual machines
  • Easy file level recovery

Cons

  • The GUI could be a little more intuitive.
  • [I would appreciate] being able to call local scripts on virtual machines.
  • [I would like] better/more customizable reporting.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you need to keep your RPO and RTO down to seconds/minutes then Zerto is an amazing solution for this. It also allows for long-term retention and file-level recovery as well. It also has an amazing feature where it allows for Hyper V to VMware conversation in a fail-over scenario.
