What is Zylon?

Zylon is an enterprise-grade, secure Generative AI platform designed specifically for highly regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, defense, and government) that require strict data privacy, sovereignty, and compliance.

The PrivateGPT Connection

Zylon is built by the creators of PrivateGPT, a popular open-source project for running private, local AI. While PrivateGPT provides the underlying RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) framework, Zylon is the enterprise commercial layer built over it, adding production-ready security, deployment automation, and governance.

Core Platform Components

Zylon’s architecture consists of three main pillars:

Zylon AI Core: The back-end engine managing local/private LLMs, local vector databases, GPU orchestration, and secure document processing. It is designed to run in private clouds, on-premise servers, or completely air-gapped environments.
Zylon Workspace: The front-end collaborative UI that serves as a secure, private alternative to public assistants like ChatGPT or Claude, allowing employees to chat, share project spaces, and collaborate safely.
API Gateway: A governed, OpenAI-compatible API layer that lets organizations connect their internal enterprise applications (like SharePoint, Confluence, ERP, and CRM systems) to secure local AI.

At its core, Zylon’s main business-user application is Zylon Workspace—a collaborative conversational interface designed to replace cloud-based chat assistants. And it integrates with SharePoint, Confluence, CRMs, and internal files, allowing employees to index and perform private RAG search over internal corporate knowledge.

Zylon also provides a "white-box" local model stack and a governed API gateway for custom internal software development. Zylon is designed specifically for regulated industries, providing strict compliance features like air-gapping, RBAC, and full audit logs to support additional governance requirements inherent in these domains. Zylon is presented as a direct competitor to popular cloud based AI options (e.g. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot).
