Overall Satisfaction with Abila MIP Fund Accounting

We use MIP Fund Accounting for all of our bookkeeping and accounting needs. We enter all money exchanged through our small business into MIP, including cash disbursements, cash receipts, disbursement checks, accounts payable, etc. Our business is very small, with one accountant and one administrator (and myself as assistant administrator) using MIP Fund Accounting. It helps us keep accurate financial records, which is extremely useful for our annual audit.
  • Accommodates as many GL codes and departments as you need it to so you can maintain detailed, accurate records.
  • You are able to search for past entries by a variety of fields to help you find what you are looking for.
  • Data entry is easy and fairly intuitive.
  • There are many checks and balances built into the system to make it hard for you to submit inaccuracies.
  • I would like to see a search function by word (you can type in a word and it will pull up any entry with that word). Currently, you can only search by things such as vendor ID, GL code, etc.
  • When needing to change the line description, it would be nice if the copy and paste functioned a bit differently to make changing that field easier.
  • It would be nice to see some other options for line entries specifically regarding the line description field. Sometimes we recall a memorized document and only want to change part of the line description for several lines (such as a date), but we have to copy and paste the date in each line. It would be nice to have something like a "find and replace" where we could update the date in all lines with one click. This would save us a lot of time, especially on our payroll entry.
  • As we only use it for bookkeeping and data entry, I don't believe this question is applicable.
Yes, we have achieved this benefit. We have our general bank account and then four different endowments. We receive various monies each month, whether it be monthly donations from alumni, a one-time gift to one of our endowment funds, a reimbursement transfer from friends overseas, etc. No matter what it is we are tracking--entering payroll each month, tracking our endowment funds, paying bills--it helps us keep everything organized.
I think MIP is well suited for bookkeeping for a small business. It does everything we need it to do and keeps our financial records organized and in good shape. I am unsure where it might be less appropriate, as we use it for our bookkeeping needs only and have not tried to use it for other things. I also personally do not have experience with other programs to compare.
