Overall Satisfaction with Abila MIP Fund Accounting

MIP Fund Accounting is being used as our main accounting system across the organization. Some of the major problems this software address are:
  • Management of donor resources and production of required reports in a timely manner
  • Keeps track of receivables and payables that are created during the duration of a project
  • The ability to use modules such as payroll and multi-currency

Pros

  • Our organization has different donors that require specific reporting requirements in various currencies. MIP's multi-currency module simplifies this process of accounting and reporting.
  • The payroll module allows the organization to have the capacity to simplify the process of our payroll even when our staff increases based on the needs of various projects.
  • Since our organization is non-profit in nature, we rely heavily on accurate real-time data of our receivables from our main donors as well as other sources as well as our payables. This form of reporting is used as a management tool to make informed decisions in order to efficiently use scarce resources.

Cons

  • Flexibility at our end to customize the income tax aspect of the payroll module to suit our local tax system.
  • More flexibility in the customization of the various financial reports that are requested by our donors.
  • A function can be included which monitors the performance of consultant contracts.
  • Donor reports are more timely and detailed.
  • The multicurrecy function allows for reports to be generated straight from the software instead of being prepared manually.
  • Our stakeholders and donors have an increased confidence level knowing that we have a reliable and effective accounting system. This will boost our resource mobilization.
In any given fiscal year, we can manage as much as eight different projects which requires various forms of reporting at various times within the year and in various currencies as well. These projects are usually a part of a larger project and hence timely reporting is always essential. Donors want to be reassured that there funds are being spent as stipulated, therefore monthly, bi-monthly and quarterly reports are used by the donors as monitoring and evaluation tools. As a matter of fact, this benefits all of the involved parties.

This organization has been using MIP Fund Accounting for over 20 years. We started with the DOS version and subsequently switched to the windows version. We have considered other software such as quickbooks and AccPac over the years as well. However, we have found that MIP Fund Accounting is best suited since it is designed specifically for non-profits and caters for large and small organizations. We are a fairly small organization but have the capacity to grow very quickly based on the availability of donor resources.
In my opinion, this software is suited for most if not all non-profit organizations whether large or small. Abila MIP Fund Accounting provides most of the tools that are necessary and required by international donors such as the European Union to effectively and efficiently manage restricted and scarce resources that are available.
