Overall Satisfaction with MIP Fund Accounting (formerly Abila MIP)

It is currently not being used. I have installed it for the Accounting dept which still has yet to transfer from mas 90 to Fund Accounting after 5 years of purchasing it. I have implemented automatic MS Sql Backups using Windows task scheduler and SQLCMD.exe We have our organization information in the database but no actual company data in it.

Pros

  • Backups are quick.
  • Size of backups are small.

Cons

  • Technical support is horrible. I called in to ask how backups of the database could be done. I was told they don't support automated backups. After finally convincing the support technician that before they were taken over by Abila someone had helped me automate the database backups, they then finally bothered to look up the article and when I followed the directions it DID NOT WORK. I had to spend another 2 hours of researching on the internet until I finally came to a non-Microsoft forum that correctly described how to automate backups using the SQLCmd.exe.
  • Include automated backups.
  • Provide a way to migrate from former products like MAS 90.
  • We've spent 5 years paying for this product and Accounting dept. has yet to finally switch over to this program. Not sure if the blame is with Accounting or Fund Accounting. Perhaps more Accounting's fault but maybe a little of it has to do with how complex it is to migrate from MAS 90.
  • Backups are easy once the automated backups are configured through non documented non supported methods.
The only impact has been installing Fund Accounting and backing up data. Accounting Dept. still has not started to use this software yet.
We have not started using Fund Accounting. The accounting dept still uses Mas 90.
Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Office 2016, QuickBooks Desktop Pro, MySQL, Fortinet FortiGate, Fortinet Wireless LAN, Cisco Meraki Wireless Access Point, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), Google Drive, Google Hangouts (Classic), Apple Remote Desktop, GoDaddy, Egnyte, Dropbox
Backups when done manually are easy but a bit confusing because the path in the backup menu is the Path on the server and it never explains that to the user. Backups should have an auto scheduled option but is not included. I cannot address non technical issues related to the use of MIP because I only support the IT Admin side of its use.

That does not change the fact that when I called Abila for support on automating the backup of the SQL database that they outright told me that's not supported. When I finally convinced the support agent to actually bother looking up the information on KB.abila.com he found it. I followed those instructions and they were wrong. I spent hours more trying to fix the error. The correct batch file command is SQLCMD.exe -S servername\SqlInstance -d AbilaDatabase -i Sqlbackupfile.sql KB.Abila.com just says SQLCMD.exe -s .\SQlinstance -i sqlbackupfile.sql which no longer works on SQL2012. Rather than defending this product how about fixing the support for it?

Thank you for the feedback. We will look further into the support documentation. Our technical requirements do change as we update our MIP software and we try our best to remove older technical references from the product documentation and older support knowledge base articles.
