Overall Satisfaction with Apify

We use Apify to scrape web data from various sources including Google News and Linkedin, as well as generate lead lists from various sources. Using Apify actors allows us to extract this data (mostly) without the need of applying cookies of our personal profiles. The Apollo actor was very useful when it worked. However ever since Apollo made changes and made that actor obsolete, the quality of the lead scraping actors has somewhat declined.

Pros

  • Lead generation
  • Linkedin data extraction
  • Google News scraping

Cons

  • Some actors are very expensive and offer limited value - $120 / month before event charges? That's insane. The monthly price also isn't listed in the main search screen, so you need to go in manually to each actor to ascertain how much it really costs
  • Some actors often break after a while and you need to start searching for new ones... but I guess that's the price for relying on 3rd party actors in your marketplace
  • The review/quality process isn't great to navigate when looking for a new tool.

  • Sourcing accurate data from Google news
Getting started is quite easy. Once you find a good actor that you want to use, it's easy to manually test it out. If it works, setting up the API for each actor is a very straightforward process, and, while the actor works, it works well for the most part.
Apify is in a league of it's own in terms of flexibility and the ability to connect the API into lead generation automations on n8n or Make.com.
The variety of actors available is much larger than most other scraping sources and for anyone looking for lead enrichment, it is definitely a great, cost-efficient resource.

If you're looking for Linkedin data sourcing and for lead generation, Apify is definitely a cost-effective tool. The only issue is that you cannot necessarily bank a long-term process on it as you never know if an Actor is going to change or outright become unusable after a while. This is maybe the biggest downside.
