Overall Satisfaction with AutoCAD

We use AutoCAD primarily in the VDC department in which we are using it for many different tasks. It's good for doing quick details in 2D or doing full sets of drawings. I would say it is still the most used drafting program that we see used, as many companies are still in the process of making the shift to 3D.
  • Allows you to draw precisely what you're trying to draw with ease.
  • It is user friendly to pick up the basics of the program and start drawing right away.
  • You can also get very detailed and do complex drawings once you get to know some of the more complicated tools.
  • Some small things could use changes opposed to Autodesk always trying to come out with new features.
  • Text/Annotation is not the easiest to use out of the base new drawing file(scaling needs to be set up).
  • It's only had positive impacts. It's used on nearly every job that comes through our office whether we used it or the Architect/Engineer used it.
  • Sometimes we don't even need to use the program for AutoCAD to be useful to us. We can receive the AutoCAD file and send it to other parties involved in the job who need the file as well.
  • It can allow us to do some tasks very quickly and get them out of the door fast.
I prefer Revit and SketchUp for doing anything 3D, but when it comes to 2D work, AutoCAD is the way to go. I know there are plenty of other CAD programs out there that are used for more specific types of drafting which have their benefits but as far as general drafting goes I think AutoCAD is the best 2D drafting program.
We find AutoCAD useful to do our surveying drawings in and then take that file into our surveying program and go from there with it. I personally do not like drawing anything in 3D in AutoCAD and would much rather prefer a program like SketchUp for that.
