Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am a reseller & MSP. We help our customers to choose the right security products for their infrastructure. We mainly choose Avanan since it is an API-based solution that sits behind the M365 default security layer, hence truly providing the additional layer of protection for M365.

1. No changes in MX records or SPF records hence protected from targeted attacks.

2. Avanan sits behind the default M365 security hence truly adding an additional layer of protection.

3. Default email security from M365 is not bypassed.

4. Protect entire M365 suits including email, teams, one drive & SharePoint which is unique.

5. Scans internal emails as well.

6. Inline protection will scan & protect before the email is delivered in the user mailbox unlike other API vendors.
7. A very strong anti-phishing engine that is smart-phishing and patented inline protection which will protect from the attacks before the email is getting delivered to the user mailbox.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Protect the entire cloud suit (eg: email, teams, sharepoint , onedrive, slack etc).
No need to change MX record or SPF. No bypassing of default O365 email security hence providing a true multi-layer protection.
Scans internal emails as well.
Inline protection will scan & protect before the email is delivered to the user mailbox.
Very strong anti-phishing engine, very less false positives and a well tuned AI.
Shadow IT & Anomaly detections.
DLP, sandboxing and email encryption features are available and flexible to choose from different licensing model.
Very good MSP model business.
Very easy to setup and configure. No downtime required for email services and the setup take hardly 10 minutes.

Cons

I would like to see the sandboxing as a feature with the basic licenses.
Awareness training is an impressive feature to have.

Usability

Avanan is fit for cloud email suites such as M365 and Gsuite and it is easily be integrated within few minutes. The policies are easily customizable and users can easily release the quarantined emails if they trust the sender.

Likelihood to Recommend

Avanan is well suited for companies using M365 or Gsuite solution. It is well suited to use as an additional layer of protection for M365 MTP or other email security gateway solutions such as Mimecast or Proofpoint etc.. It is appropriate for customers who want to protect the entire suits such as Email, Teams, One Drive ,Sharepoint etc. Avanan is a great product which comes with a specific price range and that is very reasonable but not cheap. So it is not appropriate for customers looking for a very low budget.
