Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT

We use Blackbaud FE NXT to track non-profit revenue and expenses, as well as manage some of our clients' monies. The products we purchased help mainly with accounts payable and accounts receivable. We also have recently added fixed asset management, however it can be a very daunting process to get started.

  • Admin access could be made more user friendly
  • Improving the process time between adding new records (A/P, JEs, etc.)
  • Customer service
  • It saves a considerable amount of time for our A/P processes since we can have pre-filled information for invoices and run computer checks with printed signatures ready to be put into envelopes and mailed out.
  • The journal entry add-on for spreadsheets is a huge time saver as well since we have pre-set spreadsheets for our deposits where we just enter checks/cash to the corresponding G/L accounts and then it's a matter of copy/pasting the accounts and amounts and submitting to be added to our JEs.
  • The Merchant Services module is also huge for taking payments over the phone and processing credit card purchases.
Because it has significantly improved our time management, we are able to get back to funders regarding how funds were used and show our tracking documentation in a much quicker turnaround, which in turn helps us request funding a lot faster when we notice programs that could benefit from it.
Because you can create so many custom reports, it really does have easy access to the organization's spending and financial performance. Some of these reports can even be customized to run every so often (by FY, EOM, etc.) making it even easier to run reports for departments or the board of directors.
I personally had more experience with QuickBooks and Sage, but I sort of stumbled upon FE NXT because of my current job. It is a lot more user friendly and allows you to not necessarily have such a strong background in accounting or bookkeeping. However, if you do mess up with one of the modules, it gives you the liberty to adjust any accounts that way which is very nice.

Yes

Blackbaud FE NXT is meant to help non-profit organizations manage their revenue and expenses as well as many other assets. I would say it is typically helpful when you have a medium to large organization since it does so much of the accounting for you with their modules. However, I wouldn't recommend it for small organizations due to the cost potentially outweighing the benefit.
