Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT

Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is our General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, and AR system. It is a solid nonprofit platform that accepts CSV files to be uploaded from other systems for GL batches. It is cloud-based and has extensive granular security. We have been using it for many years.

Pros

  • Expense Management - entry and approval routing based on rules
  • GL reporting
  • Security so that staff can only see what they need to
  • EFT and paper check processing

Cons

  • The reporting can be a little cumbersome to run
  • Sometimes we need Support to help us with user access issues
  • Expense Management allows for controlling how much approvers are authorized to approve. Good controls.
  • Reporting is flexible - keeps auditors happy.
Our external auditors are strict, and Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT provides everything they need to thoroughly audit us each year. Great controls and security, robust reporting. They win at this one.
Great views of activity with vendors. Dashboards are very helpful.
The selection was a long time ago. It was less expensive.

Using Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT

65 - All units use it for entering expenses, payments, and managing their budgets. The security is very granular and easy to manage, to ensure that access to data is specific. Uptime is high, so it is available whenever needed. Works well on mobile devices also. Accurate and easy to use. Reporting is straightforward.
6 - This comprises very little of their time - training for new staff, and support for unusual situations. These people are all in Finance and Accounting and support different modules in Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT - Payables, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Budgeting, and Security.

  • Expense Management keeps getting better. Previously, there was a link to invoices. Now, it is displaying on the approval page.
  • The heavy use of filters allows us to produce one set of reports easily usable by multiple different cost centers.
  • Our credit card system is external to Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT. We may use theirs at some point.
It is meeting our needs very well and they continue to introduce enhancements. Much of our staff is not very technical, and the ease of use is very important. Training is quick and easy. The licensing is reasonable and affordable. And, the time, effort, and cost of finding another solution and implementing it would be very substantial.

Typically issues are resolved pretty quickly. There have been a few security-related issues in their move to the full web version that took longer to resolve than we hoped.

When we've had changes or new cost centers, they are easy to add and get live quickly. Very scalable.
We've been customers for many years and it has only gone down 2 or 3 times ever. Highly available.
Consistently displays pages quickly without delay.

Easy. We use Okta for SSO, and it was easy to set up and has had no bumps since then.

Straightforward communications, proved our test cases would work to us.
Solid support, easy to work with for new licensing and modules.
We have annual licensing and try to cap the annual increase percentage.
The ability to get a discount for multiple years would be nice.
Communicate lots of details and make sure they set your expectations clearly.

Upgrading Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT

Yes - Since it is SaaS, they do the updates automatically and they have been very smooth. Blackbaud apparently tests very thoroughly before releasing updates.
