Overall Satisfaction with Cisco ASA

I use the ASA as our main firewall for all outward facing services utilizing the FirePower functionality as well.

Pros

  • Hardens the network
  • Advanced Malware Protection
  • IPS / IDS functionality
  • VPN Connectivity

Cons

  • Software upgrades can be somewhat challenging at times.
  • Pricing is a little high
  • With our specific Cisco discount as a global customer, the ASA has allowed us to provide first in class hardware at a very reasonable price.
  • Utilizing an HA configuration allows us to ensure we don’t have a single point of failure.
  • The VPN functionality has improved the security of our network while providing our users multiple hardware options for accessing sensitive network resources with less risk.
The ASA has been a fantastic VPN device as well as firewall with integrated services. Protection features with Firepower provides advanced malware protection with an active license. I haven’t experienced any situations where the device is less appropriate.
