Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points

We are currently using Cisco Aironet Access Points across the entire network. They are being used to provide wireless access for guests and employees. We use these across a very large campus for wireless coverage within buildings as well as some outside areas. They have provided exceptional service for all areas and we have had very little issues with any of them.

Pros

  • 3702i
  • 3802i
  • 9164
  • 9120axe

Cons

  • Dense client deployment
  • Outdoor areas such as parking lots as well as large fields
  • Having standardized access points has been helpful
  • It has prepared our campus for the newer wireless technologies
I feel this rating as well deserved based on how easy they have been to deploy as well as the exceptional service they have provided
We have used these access points and a number of locations with little to no issue. They have been extremely easy to deploy and configure. They have also provided valuable insights. Additionally support has been exceptional from Cisco for any issues which have been minimal. We would certainly recommend these access points to anyone looking to upgrade.
After purchasing the Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points we are quickly able to get them online and running with our 9800 wireless controller. Once configured they were easy to install by using the previous mounts from older model access points. Additionally, our infrastructure was able to power the Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points with the POE being provided by our switch infrastructure.
The 9800 controller replaced an old 5508 that we had deployed. The new controller has provided insights into the wireless network that the previous controller did not provide. It has been extremely easy to use and configure. Additionally performing iOS updates for all access points has been extremely easy with minimal downtime or issues.
  • Cisco Aironet 3800 Series Access Points (discontinued)
Previously we used 3800 series access points within our infrastructure. These access points have been supported within the 9800 wireless controller and are currently being used still as we work to replace access points in the near future. These access points have provided excellent service but the newer access points are much better and provide additional services.

SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (npm), SecureCRT
Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points are well suited for dense Client solutions. We have used these in areas where we have a large number of guests that need top-notch connectivity without ever losing connection. The one area where we do have difficulty is in outdoor deployment, where large areas need to be covered, but we do not have physical connectivity in order to get the access points connected. This is not an access point issue but more of a physical connectivity limitation.
