Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series Switches

  • Catalyst 9200 Series
We migrated from a half decade old solution to the Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series to update our closet switches. They brought with them a host of new features - PoE being one of the major ones. The older switches were running out of life and the new Cisco switches advanced our capabilities, bringing us current with modern trends.
  • Very easy to install and configure
  • The form factor was better than the previous models
  • I cannot think of anything that I would do better
  • We are now able to use PoE objects without injectors
  • We have simplified our network topology and configuration
  • We have shifted from many different vendors to just one
The simplification of the network configuration has helped us tremendously. We shifted from multiple vendors to the single Cisco model and the ability to manage just one platform has been increasingly helpful. The new analytics that we are able to gather from the units are years ahead of the old ones and make it a lot easier to identify issues.
The new management of these switches makes it a lot easier to configure and manage going forward. A single vendor and model have allowed us to cut the time down considerably in issuing updates and configuration changes. The previous solution would take multiple days with multiple versions of code and making sure it was all interoperable.
We were previously using the above listed switches as well as another one for the core. They were all one vendor once upon a time and then were all parted out to various vendors. This made it much harder to keep things in order when upgrading and getting support. Now we are much more able to do what we need to do without going to 3 different places.

The Cisco [Catalyst] 9200 [Series Switches] were a perfect fit for our closet spaces and I cannot think of a place that these would not work well. We have multiple floors that these control the network on and all of our L2/L3 needs were met. I would use these in most any business on the edge and would work well in a campus setting.
