Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches

I am using Cisco catalyst 9300 and 9500s all around my entire network for access level and distribution level capabilities.

Pros

  • they are very easy to program
  • offer a lot of features for troubleshooting as well as optimization
  • are very scalable

Cons

  • LICENSING!!!!! however this is for all Cisco products
  • Would be nice if the power stacking could be more than 4 switches, but understandable.
  • Would really be nice if they could auto select the primary and secondary switch in a stack and when they go offline and come back online they would auto adjust. My switches are prioritized, but sometimes if I lose one it will take over the 2nd or 3rd switch when rebooted. Not sure why.
  • definitely negative on the cost of operation... original cost is high and since they only last a few years, they will be expensive to replace as well. I feel this is not a good selling point.

Do you think Cisco Catalyst Switches delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Yes

Did Cisco Catalyst Switches live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Catalyst Switches go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Catalyst Switches again?

Yes

They are extremely powerful when we replaced our enterasys switches with Cisco, we had immediate compliments from our customers that they were seeing massive speed improvements. As for less appropriate, I am not a fan of how the industrial switches (1000s) have limited IOS commands. That was the problem between IOS and catIOS, different commands, same type of boxes.... need one standard ios and only add capabilities of 1000s, not take a way capabilities and make them gui... gui sucks in my opinion!!!!!!
