Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Secure Firewall

We use it on the edge of our networks to protect and white specific ports and traffic into our more secure parts of the network. And we use them in conjunction with other products as well. So we've got that multilayered approach at the edge. Not all of it's Cisco, some of its other vendors, that's what we're doing.

Pros

  • It's very simple to configure. We like the user interface with it. It's good simple firewall functions, just being able to specify a range of ips on ports that you want to allow while blocking everything else. I mean it's a firewall. It does what it's supposed to do and it does it well.

Cons

  • I'd like to see it do a deeper packet inspection and have the facility to inspect packet flows. And almost like creating a digital signature on a match rather than individual rules and not just look at packet headers with regards to IPS type functions as well. But actually look at packet payloads. I've been able to create a rule based on some flow and the payload within those packets. I don't think it does that at the moment, but that'd be nice if it could do that.
  • The positive is our networks are protected. No real negatives. It is something that we have to have. So I suppose the fact that it does the job, it does it well and it's easy to use and configure makes our life simple.
To be honest, we use our firewalls in a very simplistic manner. We don't use a lot of the more complicated technologies that's probably in there. We just don't need to. So it's quite hard to comment on that simply because, so we use it in such a simplistic way, but it does the job well for what we use it for.
Haven't contact support, not regarding firewalls.
Haven't used them, so none.

Do you think Cisco Secure Firewall delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Cisco Secure Firewall's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Secure Firewall live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Secure Firewall go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Secure Firewall again?

Yes

Well suited any edge kind of protection, which is obviously, again, what firewalls really used for. Less suited if you need more detailed protection, more granular, shall I say it's a better word, more granular protection. The ability to filter not just on IPS and ports, but a much deeper look at the packets and do that.
