Overall Satisfaction with Cisco UCS Series

We utilize Cisco UCS Series servers to manage our on premise cloud infrastructure. A trusted brand like Cisco meshed with hybrid functionality provides elasticity to our organization and the services we provide. Our use case is minimal compared to most, I assume, however it has proven to be a workhorse day to day.

Pros

  • Hybrid
  • Platform agility
  • Elasticity

Cons

  • Continue on development of platform management. Cisco has been notorious for terrible web applications but the functionality of this product is getting to where it is expected to be.
  • Recognition of this being a product in a competitive market. When I think of servers I do not think of Cisco. Cisco = Networking Dell,HP=Servers
  • 3rd party interoperability. I love Cisco but being tied to proprietary hardware/software is not a functionality that the end user or customer benefits from.
  • ROI is more on the stability side. The less you have to troubleshoot the more time you have to do what is actually needed.
  • Quick provisioning time for standing up new servers has been a great benifit.
  • The ability to quickly shift the use case for a server is great.
They are very comparable. To be honest, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the major manufacturers. What it always comes down to me is ease of use, reliability, and most of all cost. If I can put a server in production and the end of life is 7 to 10 years down the road I know I can squeeze every cent spent on the platform. However, I can say that Cisco will be around forever. In time of major acquisitions where one competitor is buying out another, Cisco will not suffer this fate and will actually be the one purchasing the other companies.
It hasn't really improved any of our productivity or agility. We migrated from a similar platform and expected it to function as such. It does what is expected from this type or class or hardware. Sometimes it is just great when a product does what you expect it to do.
TheCisco UCS Series servers met our expectations and ease of use with the platform. Cisco has come a long way in the past decade when it comes to server hardware. From being one of the most cumbersome platforms to work with to one of retaliative easy has been a great stride forward. Hopefully this continues and spreads across other platforms Cisco provides.

Do you think Cisco UCS Series delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Cisco UCS Series's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco UCS Series live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco UCS Series go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco UCS Series again?

Yes

Cisco UCS Series is well suited for applications such as the Cisco Unified Communication Management, and related products. It functions great as a solution for vSAN in direct comparison to other leading vendors in this space. It is less appropriate in small workload scenarios where learning curves would be difficult for less experienced technicians may be working.
