Overall Satisfaction with CMiC Construction Platform

We use it across our project delivery service teams, as well as our accounting and site teams. It allows us to combine the necessity of tracking larger projects in regards to the necessary submittal bios, change costs, RFIs, as well as integrate forward thinking progress in terms of forecasting and cost statuses. It also allows us to start creating a growing database of historical knowledge to draw from.
  • Consistent formatting of categorical needs over every project.
  • Divisional cost formatting to track actual vs. estimated.
  • If you have the time, it can draw up timely documents by pulling info from non-linear formats.
  • Customizable, pre-loaded divisions to be repeated to suit the particular business, without asking for a programming ticket.
  • Service Module - getting feedback from service groups to create a better tracking platform; right now, it is only in the estimating screen where that option even makes a difference.
  • Quicker way to add divisions during a budget upload. Service deals in quantity, and that extra time is costly.
  • Better project visibility, surely. I can step into a former project and see how well/poorly it was run.
  • Forecasting underway - nearly complete with year 2.
  • Cost status tracking - this has been valuable, especially when figuring out how much of a liquid budget is left over.
When we issue tickets for evaluation, sometimes the response is VERY long, and in an industry where speed is key, this is debilitating to nearly no end. I've had issues go unresolved for more than 30 days previously.

Would you buy CMiC Construction Platform again?

Yes

I will speak from the service side of things, which would seem to be more of value. If I were to have the opportunity to switch platforms against my company's suggestion, I would explore that option. It just comes down to the speed and flexibility we have to exercise in our work. CMiC is a structured powerhouse, but by its nature, inflexible. Both a pro, and a con.
As long as you have everyone doing the same type of work, this is an infinitely scalable program. But to really make it gel, there should be a uniform system for title creation. It is no fault of CMiC, but every manager I work with files, creates, and tags items in their own manner. That is more a company standard going wayward than a fault of the program.
It is well suited to tracking larger jobs, spanning 4 weeks or longer. We find interior construction and CMiC work quite well together, as long as you have a fresh mind to take a few months of learning the integrated platforms and nuances. There could be a quicker, reduced format for service projects. Right now, we have to use the same system as our capital deliveries, and aside from that, our operations are totally separate.
