Overall Satisfaction with Conga Composer

We use Conga Composer across nearly all functional groups in three main ways: Email generation, as it provides more flexibility than Salesforce Report generation, as it allows us to format and combine data from various objects via queries Document generation, as it is more efficient and saves our end users time creating documents
  • Allow for highly customized logic by allowing you to pull data into Excel and then manipulate it from there
  • Singe-click experience for end-users that can be designed by admins
  • Highest level of flexibilty among all similar products
  • Reliability, in particular with their API offering which doesn't seem to be in development anymore
  • Cost, this has dramatically increased during the lifetime of our contract
  • Error reporting, it can be very challenging to find the source of issues within complex solutions
  • Significant increase in user efficiency
  • Reduction in errors that would occur due to manual generation
  • Ease of use for executives by allowing them to click a button and get a reliable outcome
We've been using Conga for over a decade now so I can't speak to the experience of a new user, but as someone that has used the product in countless ways I find it quite easy to envision and design a solution. I think the learning curve might be a bit challenging, but once you've grasped the concepts it's pretty easy to build.
The ability to leverage Conga Trigger specifically instead of email alerts within Salesforce has dramatically impacted out ability to automate workflows as the recipients can be determined through queries, making them far more dynamic than a standard workflow. Standard composer is just as flexible, it's just not fully automated which really streamlines processes.

Do you think Conga Composer delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Conga Composer's feature set?

Yes

Did Conga Composer live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Conga Composer go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Conga Composer again?

Yes

[Conga Composer is well suited for] email, document, and report generation. We are also considering migrating from DocuSign to CongaSign as the pricing model makes a lot more sense for our business model. I have tried their newer processes for template building and prefer the manual approach, but I would say you need a somewhat technical person if you want to create highly custom solutions.

Using Conga Composer

90 - Everything from administrative, support, sales, to management use Conga in one way or another. We have built a lot of reports using Conga to support specific requirements that native reports didn't at the time.
3 - You need to be able to thing generically and parse out the data you'll need into it's most granular components in order to build the appropriate queries to support the solution. Being able to work with formulas and merge fields that don't show the data/end result until merge require strong conceptual skills.
  • Contract Generation
  • Report Generation
  • Automated Emails
  • Template Selection
  • Combine tens of queries into very complicated reports that would've taken a lot of post-processing otherwise
  • Leveraging formulas and logic to distill many different emails into a single button
  • Building import templates for merging
  • Forecast generation
  • In conjunction with Conga Sign
  • With flows
There really aren't any comparable options that would fit all of our use cases. Even if there was, we would have the issue of migrating all of our templates and buttons which would take literally months to execute.

Evaluating Conga Composer and Competitors

  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
We made the purchasing decision over a decade ago so the pricing was more competitive and the competition was far less robust. That being said, we have looked a couple of times in the last decade to see what alternatives existed and have found nothing that has the functionality to pass literally any query and use the results in a merge.
The cost has significantly increased as has the number of competitors so we would likely go through a more rigorous review of the offerings available. We're also further into our Salesforce journey and would try to use more native reports to reduce the technical debt that comes along with custom Conga reports.
We have not been able to find an offering that allowed for the level of customization or could handle the complexity of the solutions we've built using Conga's products. We selected Conga originally as it was recommended at the time (2012) and there weren't any better alternatives - but we have looked recently and still can't find anything better.

Conga Composer Implementation

It was painful internally to build out all of the templates, but the actual implementation of the product was okay.
Change management was a major issue with the implementation - We customized our reports to much to appease users and this created technical debt.
  • Complexity of requirement
  • Discovering what was/wasn't possible
  • Button creation

Conga Composer Support

It's been hit and miss depending on the issue. We use javascript to generate the urls which has confused many techs even though it generates a clean url - they are overwhelmed by the concept of code and can't understand that the url is all that matters.
ProsCons
None
Not kept informed
Escalation required
Need to explain problems multiple times
Yes, because we had a showstopping issue and couldn't get support without it.
Yes - With the original team these were resolved quickly and efficiently. With the new team they take a lot longer.
The original team was great, I was able to work with the CTO and CEO to implement multiple functions that we still use to this day.

Using Conga Composer

For end users it's pretty easy. For admins there is a learning curve that can be challenging, especially given the complexity of our setup.
