Overall Satisfaction with Code42 (formerly CrashPlan)

CrashPlan is the best product for endpoint backup I have ever used. It is a light weight client that doesn't annoy the user. We use it to back up to the cloud sites that Code42 has around the world. My users are able to backup to the closest data center to them. This means that my Singapore users are backed up to the Code42 Data center in Singapore and not the US. Beauty of this is, that we keep the encryption keys in house so no one has access to them but us. We were able to deploy to our entire network in less than a week and their support is one of the best I have worked with. We had a C level employee that had destroyed his laptop and I was able to start a restore to a spare laptop. I then put the laptop on a MiFi device and hopped in my truck to drive it 2 hours to where the employee was. When I got there it was fully restored and ready to go. They also do legal holds on the data to allow you to execute and access data for legal cases with very little effort.
  • Backup every 15 minutes with zero user intervention.
  • Cloud storage on their own servers with unlimited data. All encryption keys are kept on your servers not theirs.
  • Ability to put any user on legal hold and assign a legal representative to administer the legal hold.
  • Light weight client, that users don't even know is there.
  • There are really no feature that I would want it to do other then what it already does.
  • Ability to roll back to earlier version of files to recover any lost changes.
  • Quick recovery of lost or stolen computer's data.
  • Protects against damaging viruses (e.g. crypto-locker)
Works better for cloud storage due to Druva using AWS for its offsite storage. AWS limits how many concurrent connections you can have and this results in a possible back log of backups while waiting for the pipe to clear. This could result in lost data.
CrashPlan is great for any computer endpoints that contain company data you don't want to lose. Mobile or desktop, It just works!
