Overall Satisfaction with Datadog

Our use case crosses teams—DevOps, backend engineering, and QA. We use it for everything from monitoring system CPU and memory usage on our cloud instances to application-level error custom alerting. We also use it extensively for deployment alerting, real-time SRE dashboards, and even for long-term performance analysis.Overall, Datadog is now part of our observability stack. It makes us proactive about issues in the system, and not reactive.

Pros

  • Unified Observability (Metrics, Logs, Traces in One Place)
  • Real Time Dashboards
  • Good Alerting mechanism

Cons

  • learning curve for new users
  • Dashboards can sometimes be disorganized if not maintained properly
  • Alert configurations take time example user has to plug and play sometimes
  • reduced the time in debugging and the team is more productive as RCA is easy to find
  • Decision making with live metrics is helpful by a lot
  • with help of llm even QA is able to find some memory issues and spikes by looking at the dashboards
I graded Datadog an 8 out of 10 because it's a very powerful and effective observability platform that has really improved how we're able to monitor, debug, and keep our systems running. It brings a lot of value—most notably in the fields of reducing downtime, speeding up incident response, and giving us an integrated view of our applications and infrastructure.Overall, it's a brilliant tool that has had a measurable impact on the way that we work, but there's still potential to make it more affordable and accessible at scale.
1. Grafana is good, but a lot of integration is required for it to work. .that not the case of Datadog
2. Faster to set up Datadog instead of Grafana
3. Alerting in Datadog feels much easier thanin Grafana.
4.i can tag both logs and traces so that it is easy for e to debug

Yes

Yes

Did implementation of Datadog go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Datadog again?

Yes

What i really like is the APM of the Datadog, typically my project consists of many microservices and recently upgraded for kubes , it helped up to maintain to track and trace the request

Dashboards setup takes some time to get your hands dirty but once you do it, it is very helpful.

the only downside is the learning curve
