Overall Satisfaction with Datadog

We use Datadog in 3 ways:
1. Create monitors for our services and api endpoints
2. Service specific monitoring
3. Debugging and troubleshooting using APM traces - most useful
4. Add metrics for our services

Pros

  • APM traces really help well with debugging
  • Service dashboards help find issues during deployments

Cons

  • Datadog highlights probable issues when detecting anomalies. These are mostly not useful and don’t really help
  • Differentiating canary vs stable deployments. We have custom dashboard to identify this
  • Positive
Helpful UI.
Kibana
Datadog
… because within our usecase we have all the events in Kibana but sampled traces in Datadog … but if we had all the traces it would have been much more useful

Observability during deployments and debugging issues. Datadog really is helpful to debug the calls.
